You folks have all been so cool, calm and collected, I thought it respectful to add some more by way of commentary, not necessarily questions but that doesn’t mean you can’t comment or question mine.
Following the URO’s verbal results of my biopsy; when he said he was confident in the thoroughness of the biopsy, the results and a 6 month PSA retest, I still had questions.
I waited a few days for my GP to get the results and got a same day appointment.
When I arrived she had printed 2 copies of the biopsy results and we went over them.
Clinical History
Nodule left base, PSA 4.7
6 sites (left, right, base, mid, apex) 13 cores of varying length.
“Negative for Malignancy.”
During biopsy, URO commented that the US “did not collate with his DRE” and I asked what he meant. He said the US just didn’t show a well-defined or significant (dense?) “nodule.”
A thorough, frank, but casual discussion with my GP left me satisfied there was nothing to be overly concerned about and she concurred a PSA in 6 months was not too long to wait.
So why a PSA of 4.7?
Many reasons, so I am told, among them, specific to me;
Age 73
DRE the day before
Sex the night before
A 1k vigorous swim, an hour or so before
…my understanding now is one should be pretty docile for up to 72 hours pre PSA.
Having now done a lot of reading, being told I have a death wish for not listening to some (ridged) others, not being more proactive as well as getting another PSA at 3 months, I will likely just pay the 30 or 40 bucks and get one done at the same lab, at the midpoint, which will actually be 4 months.
Thanks again for all you do.
Tim.
