Like I said above it is completely normal. It was about six weeks before I was clear. If it concerns you that much then sit down when you have a pee.

Blood in semen lasted about 4 weeks here.

I've just been through this delightful "experience". Blood in urine lasted less than a day. Bowel movements a were little sore for a day or two with a tiny bit of blood first time. Blood in semen - was a bigger (pardon the pun) issue. The colour changed from bright red (ie as if I were ejaculating blood) for several days - at which stage I think the advice is to "go easy". Then it started to become darker, at which point I am assuming I was no longer bleeding but "flushing out" the pipes. Dark red became brown, then beige became normal just about today (ejaculating once or twice a day on average). This is 10 days after the biopsy. But like many of the rest of you - no real information or advice about this apart from "you may get blood in your urine and your semen". So hopefully this allays a few concerns.

I got something else......Yes blood in semen cleared up in about a month, but now I notice much less 'volume', that is , not as much coming out as before. Could this also be a symptom of recovery of the prostate from the biopsy procedure? Don't know what could cause at least 50% reduction (in me) of semen. Of course, I worry about something else causing it. I guess, in a couple months after treatment, it will not be an issue anyway.

Maybe scarring and blood clots are damming up the ducts. Keep trying to work it through often. If you are taking an alpha-blocker, that causes retrograde ejaculation (goes up into bladder). Both seminal vesicles and prostate produce semen.

My doctor, nurse and the written followup notes all mentioned this when I had the procedure. Most docs do warn of this. Sounds like you got one that doesn't, which is bad.

Michael, well, who knows? It takes a certain amount of time for the tissues to heal and stop bleeding internally. I've never seen anything that says you need to have X number of ejaculations to clear it up. Maybe you could start keeping track and tell us what the count is?

BTW, it's academic to many of us. For surgical patients in particular (and many radiation patients as well), ejaculation is a distant memory.

Last week I had a biopsy. Two days later ejaculation. Dark blood was scared to look at it. Another two days again this same. Yesterday dark again. Today dark but a bit of fresh/red blood as well. I do think we have to be carefull with that area after biopsy. It is still healing so my view is - frequent ejaculation does not clear semen from blood. But leaving semen inside is bad either. Two times a week sounds fine for me. Healing time interupted by few wonderful minutes :) I'm not a doctor. So just writing what I think is correct.

45 and at my physical in July found a ridge on my prostrate that hadn’t been there before. I have asked my doctor about Cancer blood test before because it runs deep in my family (Both parents 61 & 66, grandparents, etc.) but she doesn’t have faith in them. Referred to a Urologist who discussed all the blood test stuff and said we would look at those after he examined me. I said we would have a problem if he had a cigarette in his mouth afterword’s. He didn’t, thank god! But he said he would rely on a blood test after what he felt and wanted me in for a biopsy sooner than later. He opened his office 30 minutes early four days later to get me in, 9/30/2016, took 18 cores and I have been waiting for the results not 10/07/2016. I wore the tampon in my crack for the rest of the day and I didn’t see any blood in my urine until six days later and that was only once, cleared up before bedtime pee and nothing today either. Now my semen that’s another story. WOW! I am at about five since the biopsy and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down. We will see. Thanks for all the previous comments it really helped me understand.

Thanks so much for all this. YIKES! I was shocked the first time, and the second... So glad to find these merry band of sufferers. A little heads up would have been nice, ranks up there with the "you might experience some discomfort" line before the procedure. I wold never opt for the local BTW.

This thread has been very helpful to me in understanding what is going on.

I had my biopsy on May 15 ... happened at 1:00 pm. I did not have any blood in my urine but a lot of it in my first BM about two hours afterwards. There was no blood in either my urine or BM past 6:00 pm that evening ... I felt a bit fortunate.

Ejaculated for the first time today (May 21) ... it was like chocolate sauce At least I know that is normal from the talk in this thread.

I have a question ... I love to cycle and I am missing it. I tend to do 20 to 30 km a day. Any other cyclists out there? If so, when did you start again? I'm going for 10 km walks but I'd rather get on my bike if it was safe to do so.

Thanks, guys. Even my urologist seemed to soften his words in the OR when warning me about blood in semen. I should of just said loudly "You mean I will be shooting red blood all over myself when I masterbate (but use a term that is widely used instead)". They seem to avoid the masterbation side lot sexual activity that every man I know performs, married or not - young and old.

Yes, I was shocked when I had a hand of very sticky slimy blood this morning and did not expect the volume that appeared. I think the red color reveals or shows us how much we really do ejaculate. But I thank the men on this forum for warning me.

I'm awaiting biopsy results in the next week. PSA went from 4 last year, to 5 in January to 7.2 in June. I had testosterone pellets inserted in April because I have a low number of 150 the past 10 years. We think the pellets may have revealed cancer as it can do that as the cancer feeds off the testosterone. So, we'll stop the pellets until we figure this out.
