Still seeing blood in semen

I had a biopsy about two years ago(results negative). Afterwards, there was a lot of blood in my semen. I came here for advice and was told it was normal. It went away after awhile. A few months ago it returned, and went away again. Now it's back and more of it. It seems to appear in undies even after an erection with no orgasm. PSA levels were 8.9 in Nov. 2016, 8.2 in Feb 2017, and 9 + in May. I'm suppose to go back in August for another blood draw but don't know if I should be worried enough to go in sooner. Any advice on what could be causing this? Anyone else have experiences like this? Not something you want to see first thing in the morning. Last digital exam less than a year ago found nothing. Anyone else have experiences like this? Is this a sign of PC? Thanks for any advice or counsel. Jack

I can't speak from any real experience, but I have read that there can be blood in the semen due to other prostate conditions, infections, injuries, etc. By now, I'm sure it has nothing to do with your biopsy from two years ago, so I'd vote for more careful evaluation by your uro.

When I was first diagnosed with BPH, my uro told me that it could cause blood in my urine, so I guess it could also cause blood in the semen. (But I am not a medical professional.)

I'd call the URO. More likely an infection.

PC generally doesn't act like this.

Are you also seeing any blood in your urine? Tinge of red or pink? Any pain or discomfort when urinating?

If any of the above, you could have an infection (as was mentioned) or you could have some stones in your bladder or elsewhere in your urinary tract. I had hematuria (blood in urine) during some recurring issues with bladder stones and it would show up in the undies or in a pad from time to time. I'd also pass some small blood clots periodically.

Your Uro will likely get a urinalysis on you and may opt to do a cystoscopy in the office to get a look inside.

Is the blood black or bright red...if the latter...see the doc...if the former...have beer...

Blood anywhere where it is not expected or there is no obvious reason for it, should be investigated promptly.

As others have said, it may be nothing, but until you know, it should be checked. I wouldn't be waiting til August.

Thanks all. I'm on vacation now but will try to go to the doc. as soon as I get back. Hopefully med only can help. Not the way I wanted to spend vacation. To answer some of the questions, no blood in urine, dark red in semen. Was told I have an enlarged prostate, but don't have to get out of bed to pee too often, maybe once after 6+ hours. Thanks again for all your help now and previously. Found you guys by accident. Glad I did. Best of luck to all. I'll probably have more questions in the future. Worried about post op effects if it comes to that. Jack

I missed the biopsy 2 years ago...get it checked asap...not sure how long vacation is but it needs to be checked...blood anywhere other than a cut...means something...is wrong...minor major ich mach nix...

Blood in semen was the reason I got diagnosed with prostate cancer and I am thankful it happened. Multiple episodes of blood in semen - some more some less - and some without the blood. But mainly it continued over months. Finally went to my family doctor who gave me my first PSA test (at 54) and a DRE (first of those in years). PSA was at 20. DRE was normal - he didn't feel anything.

I had a course of Cipro to see if that would do anything. It did not. Still high PSA. Had a biopsy and bingo - cancer. So not 100% sure if related but there is a decent possibility in my case. With cancer near/in the transitional zone it could very well manifest as blood in semen. If I never had the blood I might have gone years longer without diagnosis and with a probable worse outcome. I believe persistent high PSA and blood in semen warrant serious investigation.

I did NOT have blood in urine.

Thanks again for all the help and advice. I'm going to try to make an appointment with my PCP and he will probably make a referral to the urologist. I'll give updates when I know the results. Jack

Does increased fluid intake help "flush" blood from the semen?

See attached link. Having recently experienced the same, I researched it. Evidently it is not as uncommon as most would think. I had radiation 3 years ago for PCa with extensive coverage to the SV. That may be the cause in my case. Generally speaking, the cause is most often benign.
