Just found your website.
I am going to be 69 December twelfth and disabled Vietnam and Cambodia combat wounded veteran.
I had PSA result 5 and I was sent to the Wright Patterson Air Force Base Hospital urology clinic and biopsy was Gleason score 9 & I was told it was very aggressive and needs to be removed as soon as possible.
The urologist Lt.Colonel Shaw was the surgeon and there was no robotic surgery equipment and I had a
open surgery and it was the first surgery and anesthesia I ever had.
I developed blood clots and fluid in my lungs and I was at the Wright Patterson hospital for ten days March 16 and then transferred to the Dayton VA Medical Center nearby for recovery and I had the catheter removed March 21 .
I have copd emphysema and type 2 diabetes take blood pressure medications.
I'm 6'4" & I was 240 pounds on March 6 when I had the surgery to remove my prostate gland and pelvic lymph nodes.
I have been very inactive and not in very good physical condition and ptsd
After the catheter came out I had no control over my bladder and urine just flowed out and when I stood up it was worse and run down my legs and on the floor in my shoes.
I stayed at Dayton VA until May 6 so it was two months after the surgery and I still weak and gained almost forty pounds in the hospital.
I lost my little dog Buddy December 5 after surgery to remove a large spleen tumor he was 13 1/2 years old West Highland White Terrier.
So I live alone now and it has been difficult for me.
I still have the incontinence and blood in my urine.
Oh I forgot that they said the tumor was very large and I still have cancer in the connecting tissue of my bladder and I am receiving radiation therapy Monday through Friday for seven weeks and I had a hormone shot month ago and six months later.
I have the difficulty urinating and my penis is pulled up inside me and I can't pee like before and I have painful urination and blood at least once a day.
I sometimes have to go two or three times in hour and have to set down to pee and almost every time hardly any urine comes out and I have burning sensation.
It just makes me feel worse than I already was before finding out I have cancer and my surgery.
I finally meet the other Oncologist today and he told me that I should have never had a prostatectomy because of the high Gleason score 9 & the low PSA test of 5.
Because the surgeon can never remove all of it and I would still have to receive radiation therapy and with the
open surgery and healing and other difficulty and not having a prostate gland and all the incontinence and I would have been better off to just have the hormone shot and radiation therapy and it would be better results and I didn't know anything
I didn't have the opportunity to get second opinion and talk to other about
the different treatments that were available.
I think that robotic surgery might have been better than
open surgery and I was not told anything about
radiation therapy instead of prostatectomy.
I was told that it was very aggressive and needs to be removed.
I just don't know if I'm going to stop wearing adult pull up diapers and stop peeing my pants when I am driving and can't get to bathroom or every time I turn the water faucet on and can't sneeze or fart without having to pee my pants.
Sorry I don't know if it's acceptable to post this.
Thanks and hope that we can get better even though I'm going to be 69 December and I can't expect to get better the older I get.
