Hospice update

Hi everyone, it has been a while since I have updated on how things are going with Chris.
We are now about 2 1/2 months into hospice.
It took a while but his pain is relatively under control with every 12 hour doses of slow release morphine and liquid morphine when needed for the breakthrough pain.
He continues to lose so much weight and has lost all of his muscle mass.
He is down below 120 pounds. He weighed 155 when he was admitted to home hospice the end of April. It is so hard to watch what stupid cancer is doing to his body.
He is getting weaker by the day, although he is doing everything he can to stay up and moving as much as he can. Our hospice nurse cannot believe he is able to still be as mobile as he is, but that is my husband.
He is so strong and so stubborn there is no way he is going down without fighting to the end.
He is eating very little. Maybe 500 calories on a good day.
He complains that food tastes like someone poured an entire salt shaker on his food and is just not interested in eating.
The hospice nurse came on Monday and his blood pressure was low and his weight and progressive weakness shows things "changing" again after he had a couple of good weeks.
We were even able to go to Estes Park a couple weeks ago. We have taken Tessa our 7 year old granddaughter to 4 different national parks to earn her badges as a junior park ranger. She earns a badge at every national park and it was very important to Chris that he was able to take her to one last park and Estes Park is the closest.
She understands (as much as a 7 year old can) what is happening to grandpa. She told the park ranger that swore her in that she was going to give her badge to grandpa to take with him to heaven so he will remember her. 😥
Watching this whole nightmare has emotionally paralyzed me. I can only take things a day at a time and on my bad days I look at him and think how can I even thing of being weak when he is being so strong and brave. Even in his illness he still shows me what true strength is.
I appreciate your continued support. I will try to update again soon. It has been such a challenging time with all of this and my mom was just diagnosed with leukemia. Ugh! Not sure yet what her decision will be about chemo. At 88 years old I think I know what she will decide.

They MUST find a cure for advanced prostate cancer. We cannot let this happen to anymore men! 😡

Peace and comfort to both of you. One day at a time is the best way. Your plate is full and now you have your mom's health to be concerned about. Even with all you are dealing with, your last statement about finding a cure shows concern for others--that says a lot about your character.

I'm not exactly sure what strong and weak means, but I do know what love means, and I am hearing a lot of it in your post.

Reading your post touch me in a very real way. I wish there was something I can do for Chris. I'll pray for comfort and peace for him and strength for you and the rest of your family. God bless.
