Novartis applied for the approval for its drug, tisagenlecleucel..
“Novartis has long believed in the potential of chimeric antigen receptor T cell (CAR-T) therapies to change the cancer treatment paradigm,” the company said in a statement responding to the decision.

The trials focused on childhood leukemia but it has the potential to work on virtually all cancers...

Yes, but....I am fuzzy on details, but two CAR-T trials for different drugs have had deaths due to cerebral edema. This has a summary from March:

Would not be at the top of my personal list to volunteer for a trial - serious neurological side effects - until they have a much better handle on safety.

At the same time, the success stories are mouth watering.

Wow, there's a possible dilemma to ponder.

What if a therapy was developed that said, "You have a 50/50 chance. This will either completely cure your cancer, or it will kill you. The odds developed through all the trials show it is 50/50, and no way to tell in advance. And it won't work after you've done the other traditional therapies".

Would you do it?

On this trial, limited to children with leukemia, there were no "adverse outcomes"...That fact is the big step forward..83% of these patients went into complete remission..So, as you can imagine, there is a lot of excitement..

Research to develop the CAR-T method to attack solid tumors without undue side effects, is ongoing, but will take time.

Fair, our stats close (dx 8/09, gleason 4/5) now 75 yrs. old. Mayo Onc started me on Lupron + zytiga in 11/13 and I have had an undetectable psa for 41 consecutive months. I know that Zytiga will stop working. Are you leaning to chemo or what else and where do we go from here. The old sailor
