After being 5 months post surgery, and having no luck with Viagra or Cialis my doctor recommended the penile injections. I had my first "test" injection yesterday. .25 ml of Tri-Mix Standard. I was able to achieve an erection (not the quality of pre-surgery), but it was very painful. Too much so to even think of doing anything with it. Has anyone experienced this? Could it be that after pretty much being dormant for 5 months, and then being stretched out so much it was just complaining and will get better? confused I can't imagine anyone using the injections if they have the same outcome (which lasted 3 hours).

Sorry to hear of your first experience with an injection. I'm surprised drugs didn't help you. You are 56, and typically the younger you are when you have surgery, the better your recovery.

I didn't do anything for the first 3 months or so, then I tried Viagra and had some results. However, I'm now at 9 months post surgery, and need to know more about my possible recovery. I have an appt. with a specialist in ED, and I expect we'll talk about injections.

I've done some reading, and generally Tri-Mix does not create pain in most patients. Perhaps you need a lighter dose.

I hope you find the right "mix".

To me .25 ml is a pretty high dose to start at. Usually a doctor will recommended starting at a lower dose and slowly increase the dose until you hit a satisfactory (and hopefully none painful) level.

For example start with five units (.05 ml). If that does not work, go up 5 units to 10 units (.1 ml), if that does not work ..... etc. etc.

As mentioned. that does sound like a lot for an initial dose.

However, if Trimix was going to be effective in the long run for you, a too large dose should have given you a rock hard erection for those 3 hours or so .. not just "something less than pre-surgery" as you reported.

If you go with half that dose now you cannot expect any better erection quality, unless as you say maybe it is just ol Willy is lazy after 6 months of nothing but sitting on the couch.

However, using Trimix to get good blood flow going regularly and expanding those corposa -- which it will, even if not at 100% hardness levels -- is really good for your potential ED recovery. So I would advise keeping it going. There is not much else you can do that will be better at rehabbing.

This can happen, but usually that pain is a result of so much blood and expansion that you are really ROCK hard. It could be just lack of good flow for the past five months or use in general in the time period.

Had to been using a pump at all during the recovery and rehabilitation period? If not, you might try that - WITHOUT THE TRIMIX, DO NOT COMBINE THE TWO..

see if you can draw blood into the pump frequently, like DAILY a couple times a day, get the spongiforma moving around and expanding.

Also, are you on a daily cialis or something of the sort? That is going to be good and helpful to keep moving blood into the region and groin daily. Make sure though not the mix taking any of the PDE-5 pills and then ADD the trimix.

my first shot was .20 ml and that was way too much for me! Almost ended up in ER for prolonged erection. After 9 years of experimentation the magical dose is .12 for me. It's a shame doctors don't give better advice on this. Just dial it back to .05 and move up slowly. Here's hoping you can progress to pills or maybe nothing some day...

Thanks for the feedback, I appreciate it. I tried .20 2 nights ago and wasn't able to get a solid erection, so will try the .25 again. Yes, I had been using a pump to try and get the blood flowing. I could never get anything close to an erection with it though. And neither the Viagra or Cialis had any effect.
The second injection (erection, not the actual injection) wasn't near as painful as the first one, so hopefully it's just a matter of stretching things out and getting it working again.

you might try using the pump, push it till its a tad painful but not too much of course. Also, you could try using one of the constriction rings for a few minutes after pumping, that will help hold the blood in the tissue longer. I don't really recommend that for intercourse but it is very good for penile rehabilitation. I used an everything and anything approach and I'm confident its one of the reasons I have recovered so strongly. IMHO.

And as I said above, daily is your friend. Use whatever works even a bit. It does take time to get back to solid erections with limited effort but one does get there assuming nvb sparing.

You could also do some dietary things to increase nitrous oxide production, that can help. Cruciferous vegetables, kale, things like that. I could notice the difference when I did that.

And are you on something like pentoxyphiline for blood flow from your surgeon or doctor?

The surgery was supposed to have been successful for nerve sparing, and I had never had any issues prior to the surgery. Nope, no drugs like that. I do have one of the silicone rings for the vacuum pump. I have noticed that just after the two injections there seems to be more life in ole sleepy, so it's encouraging.

Sometimes it can take months/year for the nerves to recover. Sometimes a kick start get's moving.

Keep working at it - you never know what might come up.

but don't do the injections too often.. most like 2-3 times per week, at least a day in between. that is the recommendation.

I actually did a lot of research before I agreed to the injections, and am aware of the limitations. After 5 months of nothing it's tempting to try and inject every night though, lol. Still, the one thing I wasn't ready for was the pain of the first erection. My actual prescription arrives tomorrow, so we'll see how it goes. I'm feeling a lot more confident now though about getting the last piece of the puzzle into place!

If you can post up your prescription -- that might give some clue why you are getting too much pain. Like if it is really high in PGE-1. Usually a Uro will start conservatively at around 10mcg/ml PGE-1 and leave the others: Papaverine at 30mg and Phentolamine at 1 or 2 mg. Those two ingredients aide the erection greatly, but do not contribute to the ache and actually help to mask the ache by occupying the receptors that PGE-1 would use -- but without causing the ache -- so you should get less ache.

Also you mentioned that with pumping you could never get a decent erection. If you had gotten good pumped erections you would have know that just being super erect (by pumping) you would also get a lot of ache -- which you get used to over time with pumping. So if you were not pumping correctly or hard enough then I suppose Willy just might not be used to being hard erect and is complaining.

I second what Jstars mentioned - for me, trimix was painful but bimix was not, and did fine with the erections.

My test injection of Tri-Mix-PGE1/PHENTOLAMINE/PAPAVERINE is 8.3mcg-0.83mg-22.5mg/no.
My prescription will be dropped off today, and I'll see if it's the same. I have noticed that since injecting (3 times) I have more life down in ole Willy. I injected .20 last night and had a perfect erection for at least 3 hours. Still really sore, but after 5 months was able to "service" the wife (God Bless America!). Thinking about it this morning I had a semi-erection (hasn't happened in awhile) and it was also sore. I guess I just need to get that slacker back to work now and toughen up!

Congrats of Full Liftoff!

Looks like you are getting your confidence up.

That is one other thing not mentioned -- being worried, afraid or anxious can even affect a Trimix erection somewhat.

Maybe you are just getting over initial jitters and are all set now.
