Just returned from a day trip to Moffitt in Tampa to see a medical oncologist who specializes in PCa. He advised that the salvage radiation has failed and we should just do active surveillance without ultra sensitive testing every four months until my PSA gets to 2.0. Then I should have scans to determine if metastasis has occurred. He said there is really nothing to do but wait and hope that the rise is slow. He suggests medical intervention when my PSA hits 5.0. He illuded to a couple of oral drugs we could try before ADT, one that only is 20% effective and another version that's 5X stronger but insurance won't pay for. Can be obtained throughout a Canadian pharmacy for about $300/month. If those don't do it then start ADT. So, for those of you who are far more experienced and knowledgeable than I, does this sound right? I thought about consulting another MO locally but don't want to waste resources if there's no point. Bottom line is hope of a cure is behind us and now it's about the balance between quality and quantity of life. He says I can expect 5-10 years depending on how things go but of course no one knows the answer to that question.
