September is NATIONAL PROSTATE CANCER AWARENESS MONTH.
Just as the pink ribbon campaign has helped spread the word for breast cancer awareness, the symbolic color for prostate cancer awareness is LIGHT BLUE.
The unofficial anthem song for prostate cancer has become the inspiring song entitled "SUPERMAN" --- performed by Nashville singer Jimmy Charles.
His song has raised awareness of prostate cancer and has helped raise funds for prostate cancer awareness in recent years. You can listen to it online, throughout the year. It's moving, poignant, and inspiring ...
This collective thread posted here reminds us all that we have had members among us who were diagnosed with prostate cancer in their 30s and 40s.
It's important that fellows share that message with their younger brothers, their sons, their nephews, their work colleagues, their neighbors, and their friends.
There are ways to get involved in the cause --- being a reader or member here means you are ALREADY an advocate --- becoming informed and learning from shared experiences.
Many of you share newly discovered prostate cancer research here --- and that helps all of us stay informed. Many of you also share case studies and research studies --- in answer to questions posed by members.
Another hallmark of this website is the sharing of first-hand experiences --- and these help other members!
Beyond that, September can be the time of year when you consider volunteering at a local hospital, making a donation to a favorite healthcare charity, or participating in a prostate cancer awareness event in your area.
Many events currently offer ways to get involved virtually, as well.
Many of us have friends, comrades, and colleagues who also face a prostate cancer diagnosis.
This September is a perfect time of year to reach out, give them a call, send them a note, and stay connected. Camaraderie, fellowship, brotherhood!
It's also a great time to write a note of thanks to that trusted doctor, physician's assistant, clinic receptionist, or care nurse that goes "above & beyond the call of duty" throughout the year.
With September here --- let's hope the next year brings additional prostate cancer medications, advancing steps forward in treatments, and cutting-edge breakthroughs that we can celebrate together NEXT September!
Heading out on a trail walk this morning --- in a LIGHT BLUE t-shirt!
