My radiation oncologist stated that as of today I have a 7% chance of recurrence and that would be in the form of bone cancer. If that were to occur my life expectancy would be 10 years.
Not bad from where I was August 2011. Happy Happy!!!

There is always hope!!

Hi Dave,

That is great news. I am very interested in hearing more of your story as it appears you picked brachytheraphy and my dad is considering that as well. You also appear to be in the DC Metro area like myself, although my Dad in Fl. Can you share why you decided NOT to have surgery?

Hey Dave, good to see you here again! As I'm sure you remember, you were one of the key guys I was following for the brachy-IMRT-HT combo for G9s after I joined and your early success (at that point) was very inspirational to me. So glad you're continuing to do well! (Hey, me too!)

I wanted to update you all that after 7 plus years the beast is still under control.

Spread some cheer to the new G9’s just starting their fight that there is hope down the road!

I remember. Fantastic. our treatment plans were very similar but you did ADT longer.

Perhaps Dave and I had the same urologist because mine (also in Rockville) recommended the same therapy. I am a bit of an 'experimentalist' and decided to not follow his recommendation, but enroll in a clinical trial at Georgetown U Med School.
I am not complaining about the outcome, but am a bit jealous about Dave's very low PSA. I just hope that mine will stay where it currently is.

Quite a coincidence; Dr White advised me as well after my (multiple Gleason 9 lesions) biopsy result. He was very patient with me and I totally recommend him. That was almost six years ago by now.

My notes of the consultation say that the IMRT (Dr Bridges) would involve 42 sessions. That was a major reason for me to join the clinical trial (Dr Collins) at G'town Med School; three CyberKnife + 25 IMRT sessions.

Excellent news Dave. I’m coming up on my second PSA test mext week, after ending ADT in July 2018. Hoping for good news down the road too.

Congratulations on the low PSA and continued success. It is definitely encouraging to see people do well, especially the G9 folks.

Sr Sailor, I too envy Dave's low PSA numbers. Mine has been rumbling around on a slow upward trend for a long time, yet not at an action level. Maybe it never will be. I'm glad they came up with the Phoenix definition of recurrence post-radiation, 2 points above nadir. Since our prostate is still in place, it may make some PSA. There seems to be disagreement on that, as some say if it was properly nuked it should be inert, and you should see no more PSA than a post-surgery case. Others say it could be considerably higher and still be ok, as in less than 2 or so.

As long as it's stable over the long term, I don't think the absolute value makes much difference. At least that's what I like to think! My MO says we'll keep watching, but mostly the trend. He says, "I'm treating a patient, not a number.".
