Four years ago today I finished the last of 44 radiation therapy sessions. My loving wife arranged for some friends of ours to be waiting that day when I came out of the radiation suite, much to my surprise. We went out for a very nice lunch that day to celebrate.
Four years ago, we had no real idea what the response to this treatment was going to be, and it was really just the beginning of 3 years of hormone therapy. As a G9 5+4 case, stage III, the likelihood of long term remission has always been a sketchy proposition, so we did the best we could determine to do at the time.
Today, I feel great! My testosterone has recovered better than baseline. My PSA, although it has come up some, seems to have leveled off at a good level. My usual self seems to have pretty much returned (for better or worse, opinions may vary!). Today is a good day. We're seeing friends, enjoying my grandson (and his parents), moving into a new (to us) condo, riding our Goldwing touring bike, and generally enjoying every day.
Milestones to me are important. These major events in our lives fill our memories, shape our lives, drive our "story".
Fight on, brothers!
[Edit: I even brought cake to work, encouraging my male coworkers to talk to their docs about
screening.
Cake!
