Moffitt Cancer Center in Tampa, Fl.

Does anyone have a reference for a prostatectomy surgeon at Moffitt in Tampa, not Orlando. That was a mistake, sorry. How do I correct the subject ?

Orlando was a mistake, I meant Tampa, sorry, I'll try to correct that. They do advertise surgery so I'm assuming they do, well find out. Thanks for the heads up

Why not start at the top? Their chair of urology is also chief of surgery and director of the robotics program.

When you meet with him, be sure to ask him about RF ablation too. Not many places offer that. Because you only had one positive core, you may be a good candidate for that. It treats only the cancer and not the rest of the prostate, so it should not have major side effects. My questions would be about how effective it has been and how often they have had to repeat it.

You are hypersensitive to ionizing radiation. That means radiation like X-rays, UV rays or protons that alter DNA. Your cells can't repair those alterations, like they can in the rest of us, and it triggers a wholesale die-off of exposed healthy tissue by a process called apoptosis. RF is different. Like microwaves in a microwave oven, it causes water molecules to vibrate very fast and heat up. So, it actually cooks the cancer. They place it very precisely just where the cancer is so that only the tumor and not much healthy tissue gets cooked. This is called "focal ablation." (Other kinds of focal ablation include high intensity focused ultrasound, focal laser ablation, freezing (cryotherapy) and a few other approaches) Only cryotherapy is FDA approved and covered by Medicare, so they may charge a lot for it. It's an experimental therapy, and owing to cost and uncertain outcomes, you probably won't want it - just something to ask him about because you'll be talking to one of the few people in the world who do it.

We see Dr. Juilo Pow-Sang. Love the guy! Had another person who had surgery about 6-7 years ago recommend him. He's not hard to get in to see, I think we had an appointment within a couple weeks.
