PSA after radiation treaments high?

My Gleason Score was 7(3+4). Six weeks after the 39 treatment program, my PSA was 0.85 (was 4.6 before treatment). Is this something I should be concerned about?

I was concerned because some on this board were concerned with .05. Maybe the circumstances were different for them. Thanks. Makes me feel better.

If you had radiation as primary treatment, you still have. Prostate. Even if it's fried, it still gives off PSA. It doesn't mean the radiation didn't work.

It's men who had surgery, and had their prostate removed, that are concerned with .05 readings. Like andrew said, throw a party.

That's fantastic. Don't forget your psa will continue to drop, hopefully for years. Mine dropped from .2 after treatment to .04 over 4 years.

Thanks everybody. I didn't consider the PSA difference between having the prostate removed and radiation treatment.

Two very different procedures. One removes prostate tissue, the other just damages the cancer cells. You'll always have some PSA.

Yep, us radiation guys can't compare our PSA numbers to the surgery guys. If that's your six week number you should feel very good about it. It will likely continue to drop over the next year or two...just be prepared for it to bounce around some. That doesn't always happen, but it does to a lot of guys.

My RO told me that, after radiation, the absolute level of PSA is not as important as its direction. If it remains stable and does not increase, you're golden regardless of the level.
