I'll be blunt here. Are any of you guys taking any ED drugs to help with the firmness of your erections? Presently, I'm firm enough for penetration but no where near the level I'd(or my wife) like to be. I have my 6 month checkup next week and I know that if I asked my family Dr, he'd say we can give it try. The latest drug to be approved, avanafil (Stendra), may have fewer side effects than the other drugs.

Yes, you should give it a try. I just got some Viagra but have not tried it yet. My doc said he just gives his patients whatever samples he has in the closet. Sometimes Cialis, other times, Viagra.

The ED drugs do help but a lot of your ability will depend on other factors like the condition of nerves on the sides and I suspect there will be some after effects from the Lupron. A few months after surgery I thought there would be some recovery of Mr. Happy but after radiation and Lupron I have complete ED. Like fiddle said, give it a try - it might work well for you.

I don't know why ED is not discussed much here. It is part of PC and very important to some. Google FrankTalk. It is a forum that deals with ED from PC and other ailments. There are many ways to fix ED.

I totally agree and the statistics say that very few of us want to admit we have it or refuse to discuss it.

How Fast Do ED Drugs Work?

Some erectile dysfunction drugs work faster than others, and food can be a contributing factor (Stendra Compared to Viagra and Cialis):

Cialis: 15 to 45 minutes, food has no effect
Levitra and Staxyn: 25 minutes, but can be delayed if taken with a fatty meal
Stendra: 30 minutes, food not believed to have an effect
Viagra: 30 minutes, but can be delayed if taken with food
How Long Do ED Drugs Last? (Stendra Compared to Viagra and Cialis)

The erectile dysfunction drugs differ in how long a man can expect to be able to achieve an erection. Actual times can vary, depending on the dose taken and other factors.

Cialis: 36 hours
Levitra and Staxyn: 4 to 5 hours
Stendra: more than 6 hours in some patients
Viagra: 4 to 5 hours
Side Effects of ED Drugs

Although the side effects associated with all of the ED drugs are somewhat similar, there are differences that may be important to some men.


Cialis: Most common are headache and indigestion. Less common are back pain, dizziness, facial flushing, muscle aches, nasal congestion.
Levitra and Staxyn: Most common are facial flushing and headache. Less common are dizziness, indigestion, nasal congestion, nausea.
Stendra: Most common are flushing, headache, nasal congestion, and runny nose. Less common are back pain, diarrhea, dizziness, hypertension, influenza, muscle aches, and upper respiratory infection.
Viagra: Most common are facial flushing, headache, indigestion. Less common are altered vision, diarrhea, dizziness, nasal congestion, rash, and urinary tract infection.

Stendra is a new one to me. I have seen a specialist in ED and he didn't mention it.

ED drugs are very expensive, at least till some come off patent. Generic Viagra is very reasonable and easily prescribed under its generic name. I'd be curious about the cost of Stendra.

A comment about Frank Talk. I have tried that site, and there is good information available. However, we just installed a new firewall here at work, and Frank Talk was barred as way too adult in content.

Tennis player, Just where do you find articles on ED here on healing well? Searched erectile disfunction on this forum. Found one in 2016 and 2 in 2009 indicating diet may help. BS. Many of us here had all nerves removed and only injections work. Injections are a hit and miss proposition till you find the right dose.Penile rehabilitation subject does not exist on this site. The subject of use it or loose it does not exist. The subject of keeping oxygenated blood flow to the penis does not exist. Beating cancer is much more important that getting an erection, but I think there are a lot of guys here in the closet not wanting to discuss there problem. Guys new to PC need to know exactly what happens if all their nerves are removed during RP.

Some thoughts on "why not more ED discussion in HW?":

But ED... although we're prescribed Viagra/Cialis and VEDs, and many of us are told to be hopeful because our nerves were spared, we're also told it's normal at 3 months to be getting barely a hint of wakeup down below and not to expect anything usable for at least 12 months. So we accept the ED as the new normal and privately cheer the slightest progress. By the time you're getting some real recovery from ED at 12+ months, your PCa recurs, you go on ADT/RT, and bye-bye libido, we've got more important things to worry about.

Decided to try the Levitra(20mg) but only half.

I thought it made a difference but my said she wasn't sure and the SE's were probably not worth it....I had a woody several times later in the morning and a headache and soreness most of the day....ugh!

at $96 for a package of 5.

I recently switched my medication for insomnia to Trazodone, largely because one of it's side effects in a very small group of users is priapism (erections that last for more than 4 hours.) The insomnia drug I had been using lists ED as a possible side effect.

My online searches revealed that Trazodone was reportedly used by many doctors for ED treatment prior to Viagra.

Does it work? For me, yes it does. No priapsm or anything close, but it does help Viagra along with some supplements I take for my ED.

I also use a pump and an adjustable "cock ring" that I bought on ebay. This combination is good for up to 30 minutes with most of that time devoted to foreplay. After 6 months of using this protocol I have always achieved a penetration capable erection. We have positions that work better than others so be sure to experiment with your partner.

Trazodone is an antidepressant medicine. It affects chemicals in the brain that may be unbalanced in people with depression. Trazodone is used to treat major depressive disorder. Trazodone may also be used for purposes not listed in this medication guide

I think ED comes up here fairly often. I guess the drugs either work or they don’t. TriMix worked for about a year for me, then I got Peyronies. Only option left for me seems to be an implant. I just can’t seem to get into the frame of mind for that. But hey, maybe someday. When my Uro was selling me on an RP he said an implant would turn me into Superman. lol

FoxRun, the pde5 inhibitors are all different drugs, and each one has it's own unique interaction with different people. Generally, if/when you tell your doctor that you had unfavorable side effects with one (as you reported for Levitra), he/she will give you some samples or prescribe another one. Different drugs, different effects on different people. I had to do exactly the same thing with several different drugs before nailing down a blood pressure medication.

I buy my pde5 inhibitor (tadalifil/Cialis) from an offshore pharmacy, sent via US Mail. My recollection is that cost is in the ballpark of $0.25/day. I have found them to be very effective, and while my doctor did not necessarily recommend the offshore pharmacy I did discuss with him and he acknowledged that many of his patients do the same thing.

Did you have ED before your treatment? Keep in mind that performance after PC treatment will never be as good as it was before treatment.

Thanks NKinney....I have insurance so they didn't really cost me anything and next time I'll try a smaller dose....no I did not and yes I agree that performance will never be the same....and I'm glad that at least I'm still in the game....lol

I had prostate surgery one year ago. For the past 9 months I have used Cialis, electro therapy, and a motorized vacuum pump. The electro therapy was really helpful early on, I feel. The vacuum pump has engorged my penis to its full rigid length. The recommendation being that you want to keep that blood moving into the penis. My penis does not stay erect once out of the tube. Within the past 6 weeks I have felt a difference and feel that nerves are regenerating and have had spontaneous erections. At this point I am more interested in orgasms than penetration and the orgasms are great. If you are not satisfied with your erectile state I would also recommend using the injection trimix. You seem the perfect candidate and its really not that big of a deal giving yourself the injection. If you are not sure about other erectile drugs, I have had the best luck with smaller doses of Cialis, with the expectation that the best erections for me occurred with Cialis the next day as opposed to thirty minutes from administration. Also, since you are getting erections, but not as hard as you like, be sure to monitor your blood pressure since low blood pressure will give you the edge.

I also used the vacuum pump several times a week for the first year. It did not give me a firm erection but it did get me full like a water balloon. I was referred to the ED specialist at MD Anderson in March of this year. He switched me to Sildenafil and it made an immediate improvement in my erections versus the Cialis. It works best on an empty stomach. He prescribed 20 mg per day and up to 100 mg prior to intercourse. I found that 20 mg seem to work just as well as 100 mg. He also prescribed Trimix. The Trimix is like magic. I inject 10 - 12 units and that gives me a rock hard erection that lasts between 60 - 90 minutes. The injection does not hurt any more than a mosquito bite and is over in 5 seconds. Don't use the Trimix and the pills at the same time per my doctor.

By the way, I had my PSA checked last week and it is still <0.1. My doctor said I'm a poster child for RALP! I feel very blessed!

All my nerves were removed during the RP. Pills will never do anything. I have done about 30 injections to get my dose right, but I swear by them. Rock hard in 15 minutes. Stays hard after orgazim, and stays hard for 1 hr. Enough time for a second time around. I am 76. (add on 2 months later) Still looking for the right dose. They seem inconsistent. 23 units of bimix 30-2 gives me a chubby on one day and a 3 hr rock hard the next time. Also may be getting scaring and pyronies. Looking into an implant. Best news still <.1 psa

I have tried Viagra and Cialis both have failed. A pump does give an erection but, it goes down when the vacuum is removed.

I recently discussed this with my Urologist and she wrote a prescription for Muse. We will try it shortly and I will report back one way or another.

How does this medication work? What will it do for me?
Alprostadil belongs to a family of medications known as prostaglandins. Prostaglandins like alprostadil cause increased blood flow to certain areas of the body by causing the blood vessels in the area to widen. This medication is used to treat erectile dysfunction by causing increased blood flow to the penis in particular.

The goal of this medication is to achieve erections that last from 30 minutes or up to one hour. Alprostadil relaxes the smooth muscle of the penis, allowing more blood to flow into the penis to produce an erection. It can produce an erection in about 5 to 10 minutes, but this varies from person to person.

This medication may be available under multiple brand names and/or in several different forms. Any specific brand name of this medication may not be available in all of the forms or approved for all of the conditions discussed here. As well, some forms of this medication may not be used for all of the conditions discussed here.

Hello. I was wondering if you are willing to share the offshore pharmacy you are using to get ED meds from. I tried couple with some bad experience and it seems that the one you are using would be worth trying. I'm not sure if there is PM on the forum but if not my email is: [email protected].
