Two month after prostrate surgery

You should talk to your doctor about the timing for the various options. Make sure he knows you want to be proactive. Your doctor only knows you want to go the extra mile if you tell him.

Two months is probably a sensible time to start injections, assuming you have tried some sort of PDE5i drug (sildenafil, Viagra, Levitra, etc.) and that hasn't worked for you. Even if you do start injections you should challenge yourself occasionally with the pills. Most guys recover their natural erections -- at least well enough for pills to work -- sometime during the first year or two after surgery.

Before I got my implant I would inject three times a week and pump on the days when I didn't inject. Generally you shouldn't do both on the same day since the pump might cause bleeding or scarification at the injection site. Some guys pump a little bit before they inject, just to eliminate the micro-surgery aspect of the injection, but otherwise its best to pump and poke on separate days.

I had surgery in '09. I use viagra and it works sometimes. And sometimes it doesn't work. When it works it's hard enough for penetration but it doesn't last too long, about 1 to 2 minutes. Then it goes soft and then either I finish myself or my wife does it. I have only sensitivity in the head and none in the shaft at all.
I would never do an implant. I'll take what I have and accept it. I do not want any implant. Just my thinking.

two weeks is not that long really for a change that will be life changing in many ways. I think you need more time to recover from the surgery and yes, talk to your doctor about how to want to proceed with your rehab. You sound like you are in a big hurry .... this is a process that takes time. Give yourself some more time time to heal

MY URO ordered physical therapy for incontinence and penile rehab right after surgery. The PT had my doc order the trimix so I would have it in time for my 6 week appointment. URO gave me my first injection and instructions a that 6 week ck up. PT ordered injection every 4 days and Vac on all other days.

Ron, Viagra, Cialis, etc do sometimes have a positive effect on incontinence as well--they increase blood flow in that area, which is good for healing the muscles. Just something to think about.

That’s interesting. My urologist suggested none of that for the blood flow. Basically just said be patient. Viagara was suggested for the intended purpose

I was not so lucky as to have any nerves that could be spared, so ED is complete unless I use a pump or trimix (which I do at intervals - don't want anything to fall off).

My uro/surgeon and my oncologist keep me on the low-dose Cialis for the general blood flow, and yes, helping my incontinence issues was first on the list. It was quite the war with the insurance company, but once we took treating ED out of the discussion, they covered it, and have for eight years.

We need to keep in mind that these ED meds came about as side effects of meds designed for cardiac treatments.

Just to be sure you know, the active ingredient in Viagra is sildenafil. Viagra is quite expensive but generic sildenafil is actually fairly cheap (at least compared to Viagra).

Your insurance may or may not cover generic sildenafil but it is inexpensive enough for most guys to afford to pay cash (which Viagra is not.)

It's a little bit tricky to get the prescription written correctly. The generic sildenafil is, technically, not a generic version of Viagra. It is a a generic for a different drug called Revatio for which the patent has expired. Revatio is used to treat Pulmonary Arterial Hypertension (not erectile dysfunction) but it is exactly the same drug as is in Viagra just at a different dose. Viagra contains 50 or 100 mg of sildenafil while Revatio contains only 20mg. You have to take the generic pills two to five at a time to get the same dose but but five 20mg generic sildenafil pills costs about three bucks if you shop around while a 50mg Viagra costs an arm and a leg and your left testicle.

If your doctor writes the prescription for Viagra the pharmacy cannot dispense generic sildenafil. Your doctor has to write the scrip for sildenafil 20mg (as needed). You can check GoodRx for some prices at your local pharmacies.
