Hi there, new to the group. I had a radical prostatectomy on Jan 2nd, 2018. My catheter was removed on Jan 16. I'm seeing my doc about starting viagra next week. I'm looking for some guidance on experiences and best dosages for Viagra. And also the best time to take it, bedtime, mornings etc? Your thoughts are very much appreciated. BTW... I'm 52 and had nerve sparing surgery.

Mojo,

When you talk to your doctor about Viagra, be sure to ask him about generic sildenafil which is mostly the same thing, only less expensive. I wrote about it recently here

You can take the 20 mg dose nightly and take a 100 mg dose for "on demand" use. ED meds can make it easier to pee, so if your continence hasn't been restored, you may want to limit it to "on demand" doses twice a week until you have better control. On top of that, use a pump every day.

I assume that ED meds can/should be continued during SRT, also...correct?

Garyi - they told me to keep on taking my 20mg sildenfail sometimes i remember sometimes i forget

Mojodag....I had radiation , but have been getting my generic Viagra and generic Cialis from the Canadianpharmacyworld.com ....very happy with them....one of the few that take Visa for payment and MUCH LESS EXPENSIVE than anything in the USA.........The Viagra good for 6 hours ....and the Cialis for 36 hours they claim.....My problem with both of them is they both give me heartburn and a very stuffy nose( SE`s listed) .....so , I take a mild decongestant and a heartburn med along with them ....they seem to help as long as you have proper stimulation mentally and physically.....without that nada for me . Last few encounters ,going without and doing OK ( about 75-80%)....but have a good stock in the fridge...... good luck with your healing.....David

This is all very helpful. I get my prescription tomorrow. I'm fortunate that my employee drug plan covers this. I will inquire about the generic brand to stretch out my coverage. I'm 2 weeks and 5 days post, been using manual as well as visual stimulation let's say, for the last 3 days. I've already noticed a significant rebound in the size of my penis. Still nowhere near what it was, or "stuffable" as they say. Doing lots of kegels as well. Gained back a fair bit of bladder control. I leak the most when I'm sleeping and my bladder gets too full.

My uro started me on 40mg generic sildenafil daily about a month after my surgery. This is mostly to help with blood flow. Unless you are one of the very, very lucky few you won’t be able to achieve anything close to a normal erection even with a full 100 mg dose for at least 6 months, 12-18 months more likely. Hopefully, your URO will set those expectations as well.

about 2 months after my surgery, I started trimix injections which are working very well turn . More about that if you’re interested.

An update. Taking 50mgs of Viagra every 2 or 3 days. Exercising the little fella every other day too. I'd say I'm about 60% restore. Seeing improvement on a slow steady basis. I have to make sure I pee before hand or I'm shooting like I was 18 again, except the wrong colour! My readings tell me that this too shall pass. Must say I'm feeling very anxious for the first PSA test since the surgery. That's coming up in 3 weeks and will be 7 weeks post. Thanks.

Viagra and Cialis are not producing erection for me, not even partial.
I am 17 months post RP with bilateral nerves spared. Still on ground zero where I was when awakened from surgery.

My sexual health doc prescribed 60mg of Sildenafil taken throughout the day, then 100 - 120 mg at bedtime once a week to see what happens. Like Fl Drifter, it give me heartburn. I'm about 60% of normal after about 6 months, so that is promising - the Lupron effects on the other hand...

Keep up the viagra and the vac, and hope for the best - sounds like you already have some progress which is great. I have more to do as they could only spare the nerves on one side.

All nerves removed. MY URO says one in a billion anything will help. Scheduled implant next month. Continent now 8 month post RP.
