This has been great reading. I own a business and business is good. Hoping to develop an exit plan to leave the work between 70 and 72. However, all this retirement talk in inviting for sure. My PC has not impacted me to the degree that some of you have had to deal with it. I had "old man's diseases" really early: Heart bypass at 41 and PC surgery at 57. I feel so blessed to still be here at 67! Thanks for everyone sharing your stories. I have to get back to work. Just kidding-lol

I retired about 9 months ago shortly after my Pca diagnosis. But, my Pca diagnosis was not so
serious like many on this forum but I had already worked past my thinking of what my retirement age
should be. I am blessed that I had great jobs and saved and invested reasonably and have enough
to enjoy retirement. I generally enjoyed my work but enjoy more the relief that I do not have to worry about getting up and going to work on a schedule and can indulge in other activities as I wish.

I had barrets disease in 1995, a form of throat cancer and had major surgery. Took 3 months to recuperate. At that time I said enough. I was 56 then and saved all my life. I retired at more than I was taking home and walked away from the stress. The last 22 yrs have been the best ever. The self made stress was slowly killing me. Retirement is better than advertised. Get out and enjoy life.

I plan to retire at the end of this year when I turn 70 and my Social Security benefit is at its maximum. I have always had a modest income, so working longer at a job I enjoy will make a huge difference in financing retirement. My wife and I have elderly parents who are still part of the equation and two young grandchildren we help care for.

Not wanting to be the last to jump in the pool... hoping to work 5 more years to max soc sec but not draw on it till 70 to max monthly payout... like Naples, pre-retirement my wife and I are living in paradise... still trying to decide where we'll retire to, probably half the year in Thailand and half somewhere in the mainland... and travel... meanwhile, my wife's got big plans for our farm here... I'm thinking of taking up the bassoon, seriously I am... I imagine reed making would suit my OCD perfectly... logoslidat's ellipses are addictive...

I took early retirement at 58 and then 8 months later was diagnosed, but I am convinced that being retired allowed me to make a full and complete recovery in a relatively short period of time. It's been 6+ years now and it is pretty much in the rear view mirror. If you can afford it, definitely retire and do what you like. As all of us know, there are no guarantees for the future.
