Well I have finally received my first follow up call from my urologists office.... 3 years after brachy!!!
I have of course been seen by my primary, and all of my psa checks have been undetectable. I wasn't as polite as I was when this whole journey started, and I am quite certain I wont be hearing from them again. What I found most surprising wasn't the call itself, but the astonishment they had toward my harsh attitude toward them. The call began like this " we were going over our 2015 records, and saw your prostate cancer diagnosis, did you ever address this"? My head almost exploded! Why yes I did, and you were present for the procedure, didn't the check clear? Well we were wondering if you had, and now I see that it was addressed. Do you plan on scheduling any follow ups? Me.. I had called your office on many occasions questioning the side effects I was experiencing, but you were never in, or were busy with other patients, nor did you return any of my calls. Office.. Oh,I'm sorry what were the side effects? How are you feeling now? Have you had your PSA checked? Me..Yes, I have had my primary checking my PSA levels every 4 months after the procedure was done, and no I don't feel very good at all. If you had bothered to call, or answered my calls, you would know what I experienced, and what I am currently going through. Office.. We have been trying to obtain records from your primary, but have been unable to do so, can you explain? Me..Yes I can. I have instructed my primary care office in writing not to release any of my records to you, or anyone affiliated with your office. Note, not once did they ask what I was experiencing on a daily basis.
At this point they basically hung up, and I dont expect to hear from them again, at least not until he needs some running money. They also seemed astonished that the very well known, and esteemed center that did the procedure had not given me a follow up call either. This is the personal experience I had, and describe when folks ask me about a course of action. Do not rely on the doctors to do anything..they wont. Be aggressive, assertive, and demanding if you have to. You deserve answers, callbacks. Do not let them pad you along, and say I'm so good nothing can go wrong. When they don't respond, move on to someone who will. If it weren't for my primary being such great Dr. I'm not sure where I would be today.
