Any of you guys had Proton therapy ?

My Urologists best bet is that my cancer is in the Prostate bed, has anyone had PT with similar symptoms and how did you get on?

Radical prostatectomy 7 years ago, slow increase in PSA to 0.1 now.
Gleason 7, 3mm capsule extension the rest was clear. 65 years

Try using the search bar - salvage proton. I think Scripps and maybe UF Jacksonville were doing clinical trials. There's no published data on outcomes, so you should view it as highly experimental.

Dick, I don't know where you might be looking to get proton therapy but I will tell you my experience down at the Mayo Clinic. I just spent 8 weeks down there and 7 weeks at the hope lodge with lots of guys getting regular IMRT and lots of guys getting the proton beam. I have been in the proton beam radiation room and in the 3 story complex where the beam is created. All of the guys that were getting the proton beam for their prostate cancer had metastasized Or were getting a lymph node zapped. The beam of the proton is 6mm or about the size of a pencil lead. So it is used to zap a very small area. The Proton Beam at Mayo has a 95% success rate with brain cancer in children! I do know that everybody that had the proton beam had to get approved by their insurance co first. One lady that had breast cancer who was treating lymph nodes with the proton beam had to appeal 3 times before she got approved. I just had 37 treatments of SRT in my prostate bed and a small area around it. Probably the most important thing is wherever you have it done make sure they have the best and latest machines and that they have done several of them.
