Have you ever wondered if Urologists, or RO'S ever read these forum posts? I have always wondered that if they do, do they take our experiences to heart when advising patients on a course of treatment, or during their explanation of possible side effects. I would really like to think that some do, but I also think that too many suffer from the "God complex". I only base this on my personal experience, and that of some forum posters after reading things doctors have told them like.." Ive never heard of that happening", or " I dont prescribe cialis because you wont need it".

I think if docs would take some time, and go over some of the things mentioned, they would be better doctors, and patients would be better informed. I always viewed this forum as REAL TIME DATA. I wish the medical profession would do the same. Anyone have any thoughts, comments, or insight?

I doubt they do, although we did have the nurse of a very famous uro surgeon on here a few years back trolling for new patients. They are too busy, i would think.

However, you bring up a great point. It would be very instructive for many of them to come on here for an hour once a month and just see into the minds of the bodies they treat. Its something, now that you mentioned it, that i would recommend to any doctor i deal with in the future, who shows himself to be insensitive or non caring.

I would actually think there'd be some value to them in understanding the various emotional issues we all go through with a diagnosis, treatment and after-effects.

doctors don't get insurance reimbursements for understanding emotional issues.

there's useful and there's what you get paid for. Since we know that doctors are evil money grubbers, they don't do things that aren't billable.

With rare exception, I don't believe many do.

If it's not in the protocol, then it's not done, as IntheShop said, if it's not billable then it's not done.

Although I have had a few doctors sit patiently and listen to me.

I certainly wouldnt expect any of them to offer any medical advice on an internet forum due a world of hurt that could come in the way of lawsuits. I just wonder if any ever look and say..wow so many people are having this particular issue, is there something we can offer to lessen that burden. I would bet some smart person could use the search function, and come up with a spreadsheet for just about any of the things talked about. Lets be honest, the anonymity of a forum like this allows folks to say things they may never mention to family, or their healthcare provide, but are real concerns nonetheless. I can so many things slipping through the cracks.

There have been doctors who have contributed here before, including one well-known as a prostate pathology expert. Sadly, his contributions were not nurtured here and he was made to feel unwelcome. That was a loss.

My RO may be a rarity, but she actually referred me to this site. . . and was only happily surprised when I told her that I was already an active member here.

At Randy's last visit, just as an aside, we were discussing the randomization of trials. The PA said they did not have any patients that had been randomized to a particular arm of the trial Randy is on. I mentioned that someone on this forum had been randomized to the arm in question. She asked about the forum, and I gave her the web address. She wrote it down. I don't know if she actually looked or not.

On the other hand, Randy's RO told me to stay off the internet.

With privacy laws governing the medical community it seems that the collection of data would be infringed unless permissions are expressly given. Even then I wonder how many RO'S, or URO'S would collaborate. Looking at only the signatures on this forum there is probably the potential for better data collection than they otherwise have access to. Add to that the individual posts about complications, side effects, emotional issues, and generally crappy feeling most endure, I would, knowing what I know now make it a prerequisite in choosing a provider.

My docs tell me the same thing.....then.....'round the corner they go to google stuff themselves.

The one's I respect the most ...do it while we're talking...

I can't imagine practicing medicine without the internet....though the one's reading what patients have to say would be few... I would think...could be wrong

I once had a question for my GP about a darkish spot on my face and he googled to find out what it was while I was sitting there in his office...

once I went to the doctor with a weird rash. She left and came back with this thing - big rectangular thing with lots of page all glued together on one side (something she referred to as a 'book') and showed me a picture of the rash I had. This "book" also had some writing in it that told her how to treat it.

I was amazed - she didn't even need a computer.
