I wonder if it's just an excuse. It may be they really don't want to touch a cancer patient because they imagine that it may be communicable. Increased circulation helps healthy tissues stay healthy. Increased oxygenation may help radiotherapy work better.
I don't think that's it, Allen, though it's understandable the thought crossed your mind. She told me pretty much the same thing that MDA says therapists used to believe -- that massage could spread the cancer, and specifically that that's what she was taught in massage school in Bangkok. Also, there's no reason she would hide behind such an excuse -- she'd have just asked me outright if cancer is contagious. None of our Thai friends have shied away from me, and they all know I've got cancer.
