Hi - first time poster though I've read literally thousands of posts here the last few weeks.
I just got my catheter out this morning and got very good news on the pathology. The catheter was on/off pretty uncomfortable for me and then I had more blood last night that I had the prior nine days. I guess the bladder may have just become irritated or something.
Anyway, I got it taken out and within a few minutes had what I guess are bladder spasms? There's not much pain involved - it's just a real weird almost contraction like feeling which only last maybe two seconds but then squirts out some pee each time. Is this a bladder spasm? I had to run out to the grocery store to pick up dinner for my kids and had about 5-6 more all exactly the same - quick almost involuntary contraction which forces out some pee.
Is this normal after the foley has been removed or after the surgery in general I guess? I'm really hoping it gets better in a few days. Now I'm laying down resting and haven't had one since - its definitely when I am upright and walking.
Thanks,
Eric
In retrospect, I have decided that bladder spasms were the main culprit in my rather drawn out recovery of most of a year. More so than needing a stronger sphincter by way of kegels, all though I'm sure there were several different factors causing the incontinence. If not bladder spasms, then there is some muscle in the area contract all by themselves and force out a few drops of urine unless I manage to clamp down quickly enough. It continues to this day almost 4 years later, though not enough for me to do anything about
it such as surgery. I only wear the smallest pads when and if I just don't want to have to think about
it. Which means most of the time- most days- I do not bother with any pad. Or if I do decide to use a pad, it feels pretty dry when I remove it before bed. Still, it is a hassle that I must pay attention to. When I feel the old squeeze starting, unless I want a quarter sized wet spot in my underpants, I better squeeze fast. It happens several times a day, most often about
30 seconds after I get up very quickly from a chair. Has almost never happened while sitting or laying down.
So, I think I know exactly what you are talking about
. I think with most folks this goes away pretty fast, most by a week or 2, at worst within months. But I still have to deal with it to a slight degree, pisses me off (no pun intended, or maybe it is!) every time it happens, but get over it quick. I have just learned to live with it, it is not a huge deal. At lest, not big enough for me to let them at me with their knives again!
