Cant say it was the most awesome experience. But I really didnt feel much other then the ultrasound device which was rather, terrible.

I did hear them say my volumne was 40?? I didnt understand that. Said he didnt see anything else. Took 12 biopsies which is standard. Kind of tender for sure. Ive read normal volumn is 15-30... So Om obviously over... Im 43 years old. Family history through my father.

What does the Volumne mean?

The volume number is a description of the size of your prostate gland, in cubic centimeters (or milliliters, which is the same for body tissue with the same density as water, like the prostate). Mine was 32.5 cc, and was described as "mildly enlarged."

Size may not matter much, unless they are calculating PSA density, which is sometimes used as a diagnostic statistic. Sometimes they will state that they expect higher PSA readings when the gland is enlarged, but these statistics aren't truly prognostic.

The real critical data will be the pathologist's findings, so hang in there until the report is out.

Thank You... Waiting game till the 8th of May... So we will see. Upon DRE was found to be normal. PSA went from 2.2 to 3.8 in a year. So I was told this is being cautious

Glad you got through that. Size is just another number, the larger the prostate, the more PSA you'd expect. Useful for deciding to do a biopsy or not or if you have BPH (enlarged prostate).

Now you have a waiting game which drives some of us crazy.

That was my experience exactly. Thank you for validating it. I think the radiologist used a baseball bat instead of an ultrasound wand.

There are various types of ultrasound devices. The one my uro used in my biopsy was not big enough to cause any discomfort - during or after.

Now, the one used when they placed my fiducials (markers) for radiation. . . I think that one was a corncob. I felt that one for the rest of the afternoon.

Hello JMurph. Your prostate is somewhat enlarged so that may be the issue with your PSA; the biopsy will tell. Why May 8? That seems an inordinate amount of time for your results to be known. Is that the date of your next appointment? If you want to find out earlier you may want to push back a little on the date and get the results over the phone (if you are ok with that). That worked out really well for me - we got the results within a couple of days and then had time to research the heck out of our disease before sitting with the doctor. If it's cancer you may be a little shell shocked when he/she delivers the news.

BTW, the the "baseball bat" effect, my issue was the volume study done prior to my LDR Brachy. The large device shoved up there was not a pleasant experience and was probably the worst part of my whole treatment journey!

Yes sir, thats exactly what my plan is. Im calling monday and asking for a upload of my results.My hospital has a Locum for Urologist. Hes been there for 3 years but travels to Florida to visit his family. So he is gone next week. But I plan on doing exactly what you suggest. At least I can have info sooner. My appt is May 8th.

Dont want to sit and worry for 2 weeks.

My husband had a physical on the 24th of this month. In March 2017 his PSA was 3.2. This time it is 4.81. His doctor mentioned a slight concern with his PSA level. Wants to retest in 3 months. Is that common practice instead of automatically doing the digital exam just to check and see if it is inflammation or just enlarged? Or automatically being sent to see whoever they see next, assuming a urologist? Thanks.

Hey Lisa....What he's doing isn't unusual. DRE's are usually done on a yearly physical regardless of PSA...or at least mine were. What's happening in your husband's case isn't uncommon. If his PSA had been 8 or 10....yeah...he might have sped things up a bit but at these levels a 3 mo. re-check isn't outside the box. Seventy-two hours prior to his test....no sex.

btw...Don't be afraid to start your own thread when this or any other concern. It'll get more exposure when people log on and see a new thread.

Hi Lisa..... You needn't feel odd posting here at all. If you read over lots of posts you will see many ladies posting, frequently for their dad, husband, brother, friend, etc. There are many helpful people here and you should feel free to take advantage of that wealth of experience. I wish you and your husband the best.
