Gentlemen, new member here. I had prostrate removed exactly two weeks ago. 63 years old. PSA: 7.2 was steadily raising and last year a lot of urinary issues, palpable node, biopsy showed cancer in only one sample. G/S: 3+4. Both my original urologist and second opinion said I was a good candidate for surveillance. I chose to have my prostrate removed. My thinking was this. I have a family history, I will never be any younger and in theory in any better shape for surgery then I am right now. It's going to have to come out at some point and wouldn't I feel stupid if I dicked around and found out yeah now it's become a more serious issue than it currently was? I had a few freak out moments like *** am I doing, but all in all I feel for me it was the right decision.
So after two weeks I can say urinary control could be better. Sitting down is pretty good, laying down even better, but standing up and moving about
can be a problem. Sometimes I can feel it about
to happen and get on top of it, sometimes not. Hey its only been two weeks right? ED? Certainly right now anyway. It may seem silly to some people but I am quite found of my penis and I's be lying if I said this wasn't a big a concern of mine. I was wondering a couple of days ago just what's going on down there so I checked it out. I was able to chub up some, but by no means anything you could call an erection. But it felt good and was feeling and enjoying familiar sensations. Much to my surprise and pleasure I actually achieved an orgasm! I could be wrong but this seems like a positive indicator of things to come. So after 2weeks I feel like my recovery is well within the "normal and to be expected" side of the spectrum. And my surgen at OHSU in Portland is as possitive about
the success of the surgery. So all in all I think I am doing as good as can be expected.

Good luck. It all gets better over time. Keep exercising (lightly!) and doing your kegels. I found that recovery was not constant every day. Don't be surprised if some days you feel worse than the day before, but it will turn around a day later. I went back to work after two weeks, and I was SO tired when I got home at the end of the day. Full recovery will take a couple of months more.

Welcome to HW.
Hang in there. Before you know it, this will all just be a bad memory.

Trust in the Kegels! I wasn't seeing much improvement for the first month or so and was getting discouraged. But I cont to do my kegels a few times a day and then about
week 6 or 7 I started to notice on occasional dry pad. From then it just kept getting better and better. Hang in there.

Welcome to this forum, and congrats on having your surgery. Sounds like things are going well.
Continence will get better. Do your kegels, and make sure you do plenty of walking. That helps as well. The first milestone will be when you are dry overnight. I understand that improvement can happen suddenly, so be patient.
Patience counts in the ED department. Has your doc started you on a drug therapy program yet? Viagra, and the like, will help stimulate extra blood flow to maintain the tissues. That is essential. Surgery shocked the nerves, and they need to heal. That process can take a year or two for full recovery. If you had decent function before surgery, you should do fine.
Good luck.
