I am looking for an excellent radiation oncology center in OC, CA

I live in Costa Mesa which is in Orange County, CA. If I need additional radiation therapy after RALP surgery where is there an excellent radiation oncology center?

I don’t know the answer to your question but, why are you asking it already? I assume that you went for surgery in the hope and expectation it will be curative. Are you considering starting ART soon because of the G8? Did post-RP pathology show more extensive PCa than expected based on the biopsy and MRI? If the answers are No, don’t start planning for radiation yet. Focus on recovery. If you ever need SRT, you’ll have plenty of time to find the right RO in Orange County. (I imagine Dr. Ahlering would make a recommendation.) I mean, it’s not like you live in Saipan or something.

I would ask the urologist surgeon. Many surgeries require follow up radiation so the surgeon should have radiation oncologists to refer.

My husband had his radiation at St. Joseph's in Santa Ana. Dr. Ash was the RO (although I don't know that I'd recommend him specifically at this point...).
We also interviewed Kevin Lin (RO) at Hoag at the Irvine office.

There are definitely options for radiation oncology in OC, and from Costa Mesa you'll have several to choose from in that central location.

Let's hope you don't need to consult one!

What did your pathology end up being? Don't borrow trouble. Hope that your PSA comes back undetectable. My DH went to Dr. Ash at St. Joe's in Orange for his RT. He completed his RT in January. From his first consultation until his followup this week he has been very informative and thorough. He liked the doctor and the team at the Cancer Center very much. The location was very convenient as well. He had absolutely no SE. We wish that he would give more of an opinion about how long DH should be on Lupron. He is deferring to the oncologist. I don't think he wants to step on his toes.

Out of town for last couple weeks (Just got married). Haven't seen pathology report. However, spoke with Dr. Ahlering by phone about path report. He said there was one focal point on prostate but he exercised tissue around it and it was clean so for all practical purposes I had negative margins. I believe he said I was T2C. Waiting for PSA test at 8 weeks which will be June 13th. Just wanted to know about RO centers in advance because I am a G8. G8 tumor ended up being 7mm.

Why do you say you are not sure you would specifically recommend Dr. Ash again? Did you have a MO along with RO? Was it a team approach?

I don't want to get too into the specifics of our interactions with Dr. Ash on the public forum (I think it's against the rules anyway). If you're interested in more info, you are more than welcome to email me (click on my name "WifeofPie" and it'll take you to my profile with my email address).

My husband worked with more than one RO (because we had HDR-BT up at UCLA with Dr. Demanes) and there was an MO involved for a short time but we ended up feeling like his involvement was complicating matters.

My fingers are crossed that you don't have to go the radiation route at all smile

California Dreamer, go enjoy your new bride and forget about PC if the time comes when you have to pursue radiation then worry about it then.
