tomobrain--
I hope you've gotten relief from the bladder spasms or whatever was causing the distress.
I'm replying again with some general advise for the first few weeks at home after RP. Almost everyone during that period experiences some sort of discomfort or symptom that they weren't expecting and can't understand, and they start to freak. For me, it was episodes of urinary retention soon after the catheter was removed, then groin pain around six weeks. For many, its blood in the urine or stool, or pain when pooping or urinating. Or swollen testicles. Or shooting pain down the leg. Or... well, if you can imagine it, someone has experienced it. You've had major abdominal surgery and it'll probably take months before your innards settle back down and you feel like your old self.
My advice is, please, don't be shy to call Dana Farber (that's where you had your surgery, right?) and report anything at all that's bothering you, that seems abnormal, that makes you wonder if something is horribly wrong. They have RNs and PAs on staff whose job it is to care for you during the weeks following surgery. They've heard it all, and they actually want you to call them about any "little" thing that's bothering you. Even if it turns out to be "nothing," they really want to hear about it. Of course you can ask us on HW whether any of us has experienced the same, whether we think it's anything serious, whether it sounds normal, etc., but at the same time you should put a call in to your caregivers at DF. Make them your first responders, not your last resort.
Good luck with your recovery!
