New and confused

I have been reading and researching and trying to find an answer to my next move.
My stats are in my signature { I hope I enter them correctly ) and I am going to make a few more appointments with different Doctors to get additional advise.
The surgent wants to remove my prostrate. The method I feel I would like to have done would be Robotic surgery. The direction I would like to take is active surveillance but I don't believe I am a candidate? All other treatments I am researching are not my first choice.
I am sure some of the members here have been in my shoes and your advise would be greatly appreciated.
My question is what would you do if your were me ?

Sorry you get to be the newest member of our club. If I'm reading your signature correctly you have one G7 core and 6 G6 cores. That typically would not put you into the AS category, but I do know that some AS programs are getting a bit more expansive about the criteria they use. I'm sure that someone will be along to comment about that.

But...along these lines, the first thing I recommend that you do is get a second opinion on your biopsy slides by Epstein's lab at John Hopkins--the newly diagnosed sticky at the top of the page will tell you how to do this. If your G7 were to be reclassified a G6 (not that you can count on that) it would change your overall risk profile.

Regarding treatment, the first thing you should know is you have a lot of time to make a decision. As in many, many months. That gives you time to move beyond the "oh no, I've got cancer" stage and to learn about your options. Certainly, robotic surgery is an option, but it's no surprise when you said "the surgeon wants to remove my prostate." That's what surgeons do and that's generally what they'll recommend. There are also several radiation types that would have an equal chance of curing you that you should look into, but you'll need to talk to a radiation oncologist about that.

Where are you located? This is a pretty spread out group and we may be able to make recommendations of some doctors to talk to. Last point: with your diagnosis you have a very high chance of doing well. Good luck to you!

Hey, we were all very new to this at one point. You've successfully presented your information and as some others have indicated, you actually have a very good prognosis. Of course, a urologist will recommend prostatectomy. It has traditionally been the first line of treatment for young, healthy men.

Different internet forums will have a different flavor. You'll discover that this one tends to be of the "no don't do surgery, just get this or that SIMPLE radiation", but it's not really that simple. Do speak with two or more radiation oncologists. Each will present a glowing picture of what their particular form of treatment will offer in the best case scenario. There ARE side effects to every form of treatment. It is up to you to learn which ones will leave open or shut down your possible options down the road. And best of luck to you going forward!

The fact that you have cancer in 7 of 10 cores and GS 3+4 in one probably precludes active surveillance for you. But you do have plenty of time to make a decision.

I hope you follow Tudpock's advice to get a second opinion on your biopsy slides, to get other opions, and to take your time.

Some of us like to ask an individual member a question from time to time (rather than the whole group).....to do that....there are two little colored boxes under each member's name. I believe I understand what your saying ,, I will research this and get my slides for a second opinion.
I gather I contact the hospital that did my biospey , and ask for the slides. Then find another pathologist and proceed from there and get the second reading

If being in Canada means you have to pay out of pocket to send the slides to Johns Hopkins, I think it would be worth the $250US that I believe they charge. Of course, that's easy to say when it's not my money...

You can contact Johns Hopkins yourself:

You should just be able to call your urologist's office and ask them to overnight the slides. This is a very common thing to do.
