Good article for those who want to decide on AS.

Also talks about whether or not Gleason 6 is a cancer or not.....Again....

An excellent, informative article, Chris. I agree with Epstein that AS is the standard of care for G6 (Grade 1) prostate cancer. He made an interesting remark: "Right now, PSA screening is the key test for early detection." My personal opinion is that all men, starting at age 40, should have prostate cancer screening performed. (The current expert opinion, of course, differs from this). Then a man can make an informed knowlege-based decision. Education is essential.

Thanks for post this. Good info.

IMHO, Dr. Epstein continues to defend his “one or two positive cores”, when the majority of other experts have judged that criterion as outdated and too restrictive.

Otherwise, an informative read.

One of the better articles on G6 that I have seen. The age issue is addressed well and I have not seen it discussed much. What does seem clear is no G7 and AS, according to these three experts. My Uro at Yale was considering that for me with one core 3+4 < 5%. Denis

I my other post from Koltz AS program they will do AS on some 3+4 and have for a long time.

I also found it interesting that Epstein state organ confined G6 will not metastasize or cause mortality. It's as if you are cured if you have that post op.....yet we see some with BCR...not sure of his opinion about that.
