The NCI use a different staging system to the AJCC TNM system; cancers are grouped into categories of 'local', 'regional' and 'distant'.

Stage 3 prostate cancer falls into the 'regional' group; this system also shows that 5 year survivability of stage 3 prostate cancer is almost 100%. This is a similar figure to Stage 1 and Stage 2 prostate cancer.

Stage T1-4 N0 M0 = local
N1= regional
M1= distant

Stage T3 is still localized, though out of the capsule.

I think that this was one of the very first things I read and learned about PC...a long time ago. You’ve been a member since 2005, also a long time ago; are you learning this for the first time? What’s so “very interesting?” Did you have a question?

LOL---I just noticed (What you have mentioned)--& that is--

**I HAVE been a member of HW--since 2005-- correct !
BUT---your conclusion is "faulty" (My Jesuit education--those "Logic" classes ) simply because-
you have....."assumed" I have been a member of the PC Forum---since 2005 !

Not so--When I joined....in 2005---my "forum" was the "Heart Cardio" area--(as I always get...irregular heartbeats & some SVT )---& at times--posted in the IBS Forum (Irritable Bowel Syndrome)--

I just never....really thought that someone would see my "Member Since 2005"...& assume...it was ALWAYS in this forum !

But--again...Why not...? So.I never really thought of it--but--I CAN see where people here--would think this !

So--yes--I am fairly new here--Less than 8 months--& that comment...I wrote---was because--I was somewhat surprised---that a certain kinda "Stage 3 "--has the same prognosis--as stage 1 or 2---like TA had responded-- "non invasive"---where it is "contained"--or "Localized"...!

Soo--Sorry for any confusion- but I CAN see where you thought this--

That’s ok. Didn’t realize you were such a noob. Heart disease is far more lethal than PC...good luck with that.

You’re a Philly guy, aren’t you? I just returned from a long weekend trip eating my way thru Philly. Dim Sum Garden on Race Street in Chinatown, Bomb Bomb in South Philly, Incomparable Burger and tots at Lucky’s Last Chance in Manayunk, and of course the best Philly Cheesesteak from Carmen’s in Reading Terminal Marketplace. Also went to the newly opened Museum of the American Revolution at 3rd & Chestnut.


edit: Almost forgot! Also had a Beiler’s doughnut (salty caramel) as an appetizer at Reading Terminal before the cheesesteak. Note to self: the line at Beiler’s isn’t bad if you are there at 2pm (can be ridiculous in the morning), but the line at Carmen’s was still really long.

Also stood in line at C&C Creamery in Wissahickon. That place causes a daily traffic jam on Ridge Ave.

Ok - that being said - yes I'm a lifetime Philly guy !- so if i may - would never say Carmens in Reading Terminal has best cheese steak ! There are 3 or 4 different places vying for that title ( Tony Lukes- jims on South St -
Being in Reading Terminal -" the " sandwich you must try is Di-Nic ( Nicolosi ) has awesome Italian roast pork or roast beef -!!
Primo Hoagies amoung others !
And yes - " Bomb Bombs " is awesome Italian place in south Philly !- OK -- that's it !!

I appreciate the inputs. I think I’ve seen Jim’s—been on South Street a number of times. It’s funky down there around Magic Gardens. I’ll have to try it next time I’m in town. Will try Di-Nic too for the roast pork. I did really enjoy Carmen’s, but I’ll admit that next to a native this is where I’m a noob! I don’t do Whiz, for example, which is probably looked down upon hahaha.

Back to the original question,I would say that distinguishing between local and regional is super important for the newly diagnosed. I was hopeful that mine was local when I chose surgery as an initial treatment. Turned out to be regional, alas, and then I was on to radiation, which I hope is my final treatment.
