Thank you all for your responses. It means a great deal.
Ok... When the Dr checked his oxygen levels they were 95%, followed by a reading of 99%... so the palliative care nurse thinks he doesn't need it/won't benefit from it. The Dr did comment on the oxygen being a good level but did say that he may well be experiencing sudden drops in levels. I honestly have no idea, I'm not a nurse but I'm lying in the room next to Dad and his breathing is poor. We usually leave him alone to sleep as he's mostly been able to get through the night without any problems. The reason I'm here in the same room tonight is that he rang his little bell meaning he needed something... And he's lying there desperately struggling for breath. The fan helped regulate it.
Tall Allen, you mentioned pneumonia... There's been no mention of that. Prior to the Dr going in to see Dad he was talking about
a pulmonary embolism. However after going in to see him I'm not sure he thought the same. When he was taken in to hospital not so long ago it was thought initially that's what he had... it turned out not to be. The Dr listened to his chest and said it sounded clear. I'm guessing he would have heard something if he had pneumonia.... ??
I'm wanting the oxygen ASAP. I believe that as long as he doesn't have COPD, which he doesn't, it won't be harmful. I think psychologically it will do him good. I think it's going to take a few days to sort out though.
Praying we can get an overnight stay tonight ..... Going to try and get a little rest now. I'm torn between leaving the fan on towards his face or is he going to get too chilly. It's not particularly warm here st the moment.
Thank you for your well wishes everyone. Just praying he can be made as comfortable as can be. He sleeps most of the time now which suggests he is, pain under control... It's just this breathing. I can see the panic in his eyes when it's happening... even though I'm a wreck inside I'm completely calm around him... I guess I could win an award for this act 🙈
