Friday evening last, my friend Robb passed away from prostate cancer He was 54 years old. Rob’s battle begin 10 years ago when he was diagnosed with stage for prostate cancer. The cancer quickly spread to his soft tissue. He thought courageously and became A strong advocate for others. He was a cofounder of An/can and was literally responsible for getting the network up and running. His cancer was ultimately untreatable. A couple months ago he let his friends know that he was getting tired of fighting. Several weeks back his kidneys shut down causing severe Adema that kept him hospitalized. 10 days ago he began home hospice care. He leaves behind a wife and sons .He will be missed

Sorry for your loss, Todd. A very grim reminder that many do not fair well with this terrible disease. He was blessed with your friendship.

Yes hard news to hear-best wishs to you and his family.

I will do my best to not let my gleason 6 cancer advance or at least treat it quickly if and when it does.

This malady can be a roller coaster of emotions. I felt doomed then got positive news here at Healingwell and was put at ease then my emotions take off again wondering what if....

Sorry to personalize your loss but this does bring on deep emotions having lost my brother a couple of years ago to lung cancer. I suppose that is why when we read sad news it brings it home to us all.

Todd.. Sorry to hear about your friend. Makes us realize that we are all human and like your friend and John McCain it doesn't always turn out the way we had hoped. My hope is I can be like Mr. McCain and make the most of each day and celebrate each day with family and friends..

I've just lost my father to PCa too. I will include your friend in my prayers. He sounds like an incredible man. RIP

Yesterday, Rick Davis of Answer Cancer also had this to say about Rob's recent death and life of service to others with prostate cancer:

"I have a very heavy heart! Late Friday afternoon, Rob Barniskis one of AnCan's three founders and an original member of The Reluctant Brotherhood, lost his 10+ year battle with this egregious disease at the very young age of just 54. Rob (GodRestHisSoul) fought with immense courage and dignity.

As some of you know, Rob was a Zytiga poster boy, getting 4+ years out of the drug. His disease was very quirky and ultimately wrecked his vital organs, albeit treatment was working. He never complained, never gave up and always retained the most positive attitude ... Rob was an amazing role model.

Personally I am deeply indebted to Rob - he was the glue that made my ideas to expand our twice monthly calls into something much bigger. He was the catalyst that legitimized us into a 501c3, able to apply for grants, receive donations, and hold our heads high in the patient advocacy community. I will miss my privy counselor deeply!

Rob leaves his dearly beloved wife of over 30 years and three adult sons. They wore their wonderfully loving relationship on their sleeves to show all how exemplary it was. Longtime participants will have seen pictures of Patti with Rob on their worldwide adventures...."

Todd may you do well during this time of loss. You and your friend are in my thoughts. I watched a very good friend die several years ago from lung cancer, never smoked a single cig, and it was heart wrenching.

Sorry to hear the news of the passing of your friend.

My wish, for all of our brothers and comrades, is that new breakthroughs will eventually allow every prostate cancer doctor to say, "We have medications and treatments that will definitively stop advanced levels of prostate cancer in its tracks for decades at a time. Not just years at a time, but DECADES at a time."

I give thanks that your friend DID SOMETHING positive, in the face of a sobering diagnosis, beginning when he was in his 40s. It sounds like he became an advocate --- a leader --- a voice.

My condolences to you, on the loss of your friend and comrade. May his example lead us forward, in reaching out to other brothers.

Oh Todd I have no words that can adequately express my feelings on this. Sorry for you loss is just not enough or strong enough.

You gave been the hope and strength to so many. They all loved you for this and they have been so fortunate to have you as their friend.

Cancer sucks and when it takes away someone so very young it just does not seem fair.

I can only echo what others have said Todd. What a huge loss. And so terribly young too.
