RO consultation

Had my RO consultation yesterday....
The wife and I spent about an Hr. Talking with Dr Dan.
We decided on RT 9 weeks (45) treatments....2 years of Lupron.
Oct 22nd first treatment, Because I just had my Lupron on 8/22
The journey begins....

45 treatments? Are you in a rural area without access to a better RO?

Sounds like a great plan. I Did IMRT+HT for my G9 T2c. Good luck going forward!

Having said that, you may already be aware there are a variety of newer radiation protocols. Your plan sounds like mine from early 2013, and it has good results. In the last few years, there've been some studies that show a course with fewer, higher daily doses has as good results with fewer sessions. Also, there is the "combo" of external beam with brachy and ADT providing very good cancer control at some higher risk of urinary issues. ROs vary in what they and their institutions are comfortable doing.

if you still want to explore options, Tall Allen can most likely provide some links, and even suggest docs or facilities to visit for a consult. If you're comfy with what you already plan to do, then pursue that with peace and confidence.

I don't know if you can get a hypofractionated protocol in Stockton. ROs get reimbursed by the number of treatments they give, so they don't want to cut down on the number.

If you are having 2 years of Lupron with it, you must be high risk - in which case a combination of external beam treatments with brachytherapy boost is more curative - and you probably won't need all that Lupron. It does carry higher urinary toxicity.

He probably means the Brachy/EBRT combo. Lupron dosen't generally have urinary toxicity, brachytherapy sometimes does.

EBRT+brachy has higher urinary SEs than EBRT alone.
