Many of the newer PET indicators are mostly (but not entirely) specific to prostate cancer. That includes Axumin, C-11 Choline, C-11 Acetate, and the PSMA-based ones. NaF(18) is only useful in finding bone mets from prostate cancer, breast cancer, and a few others. Ga (68)-DOTATATE was approved only for neuroendocrine cancer in the digestive tract. FDG isn't very good at finding prostate cancer unless it has progressed very far. It is much better at finding other cancers, like colorectal cancer, and is FDA-approved.
In general, development of new PET indicators has been towards making ones that are more specific for only one kind of cancer.
