BB got it...just in case...hopefully things will calm down...I will still make my views known...crap this is still America...to all...never underestimate...passion...it has zip to do with activities..hobbies and such...tho they are very important...a passion is something one would die for...a hobby can be a passion...a passion is never a hobby...oh and just to the silence of the muse...just be cause someone is paranoid...does not mean "they" are not out to get one...and no folks I do not have a messiah complex...but I am straight up...side ways...upside down...me...have no doubt about that...and remember HW is the crème de le crème of pca forums...members go...members come...those who come welcome...those who go...good luck...HW remains...as long as we re...member the spirit in which it abides...alohaponomana...flows one to the tother...like an arrow into still waters...nary a ripple...straight to the soul...don't need no steekin ripples... smurf smile

Also I have been feeling more and more that most posts are posts about posts to the original post....If that makes sense. All too often members are not replying to the original but running off on tangents that ends up creating some of these RULE violations.

Yes! I very much agree. I call them "meta-posts" -posts not about the topic raised in the original post, but about other's posts instead. This is different from agreeing or disagreeing with sides of a controversial issue. Logo, for example, does it incessantly - sitting on the sidelines just making unhelpful comments about what others have posted, and imputing motives to others. Often, meta-posts devolve into ad hominem attacks.

I wrote some proposals for new moderator rules and shared them with one of the moderators. He hasn't yet responded. I'll post the proposals soon.

I've been away from the HW Forum awhile and was surprised to see this thread. Not sure of the history, but wanted to extend my thanks for all the assistance I received from Tall Allen. He was instrumental in pointing me in the right direction and ultimately pursuing my treatment of choice. I will miss your sage advice on HW, and will be checking out the new blog if you should discontinue your participation in this one. Thanks again...

Some of the very best threads might deviate from the original post. I see nothing wrong in that.
I am not talking about the little flame wars.

TA-- I suppose there is a reason you singled out a specific HW member? Are you testing the Mods...or what?

As I mentioned earlier, threads often deviate from the OP one, and that can be very enlightening.

For example, say you have an OP inquiry about Lupron and it later morphs to a discussion of chemo.

So, you might have many posts pertaining to other posts.

These might be posts about posts, but I sense when you talk about meta posts you mean critiques of other posts?

Note: If I feel a poster here is tantamount to a huge waste of time, I will put him on IGNORE. I only have one on IGNORE (I have little patience for gibberish).

Finally, you have helped me a LOT on occasion and HW is enriched by your posts.

I would hope you return to those very activities that raised HW; not the other stuff.

But, of course, your decision.

I spend enough time on my computer and I probably would not go to the other site.

Also- the internet term for taking a thread away from the OPs intension is called "kidnapping a thread." you may like it, but it is widely considered to be bad manners. If you have another topic to discuss, start your own thread.

I think it's called hijacking a thread. Not all threads that start out about A and morph into B are hijacked threads. These types (non-hijacked) often have a nexus within the posts.

But these are subtleties. We have meandered in the weeds for longer than we should, so I'll stop here.

Many of these discussions may or may not be better handled by email. That's a good point. I think I somehow missed your email.

Singling out Logo and critiquing his posts are okay, but my calling you out on this is argumentative and should be outlawed?

Anyway, I think I've said my piece... and hopefully peace will return soon.

F8 - I agree with your sentiments and post. We have had other "experts" come and go over the years. HW continues on, shouldn't be based on 1 or 2 people. It's the collective advice/support of all the members that always made HW PC a great place and source. Been here coming on 10 years, in the "old" days, it was truly a support site, and the brotherhood was deep and sincere. Need to come back to its roots in my opinion

in those old days, there were few feuds, rare. if a trouble maker stirred up things, they were quick to be made to feel uncomfortable, in most cases, they left on their own. the mods were just as quick to nip it in the bud (no commentary on existing mods, tough job, I was one for a short time, couldn't take the pressure).

we had chat night every single week. it was fun. ask people like djbear, jet guy, and many others. we rarely talked about PC. we talked about fun stuff like cars, sports, etc. it was a nice diversion.
