Cashed Out said...
had robotic prostratectomy 6-1, and i am 100% incontenant. My Dr has no ideas it was a routine surgery and says lets give it more time. My physical therapist (i started with her i day after my catheter was removed and follow up every 2-3 weeks. i have been doing and continue to do the Kaleg exercises, 10 seconds, 10x 3 times a day), some additional pelvic floor exercises all of which i continue to do. I have eliminated Caffine, carbonated drinks, no tea, trying to pee every hour, drinking alot less, getting up to pee every 2 hours during the night. and on and on.
nothing seems to work. i do the 2x clench before i sneeze or cough. i even tried the mideval torture device the penis clamp (if i sneezed or coughed felt like i was going to blow my nuts off)
i drinks just a few oz after 7PM then i don't flood my diaper at night. during the day it is pad after pad usually 5-7 a day (soaked).
My PT's measuring instraments say my muscles are gaining tone and strength and I'm using the correct muscles and not the stomach muscles.
it's like a leaky faucet it's always leaking and i don't feel it unless i'm on my back and feel the warmth. i have a timer on my phone to check my pad or i become the old guy with the wet spot.
if i sleep in the recliner, which keeps me on my back. my diaper is still very wet but i can get up and pee alot but my bladder gives me no indication it is full.
i'm not giving up just wondering if anyone had any other idea's.
Obviously i will try anything LOL
Thanks
Bob
May you find peace and healing, brother, because I can really relate to what you are going through. My URO claimed a < 3% incontinence rate(I believe him), and I remember one of the last things he assured me of was that I would not have significant problems with incontinence. But boy did I. He told me I would most likely be forever impotent and unresponsive to Viagra type drugs ( and indeed I was ) but he did not prepare me for the incontinence I would experience for many months. I just kept wishing that I could go ahead and have corrective surgery rather than having to wait a year or two to find out if I was really going to need such.
But in the end, I did not really need it. I can't remember if it was 6 months or closer to a year before I did not need even the small pads anymore. And during those first few months, if I was upright, it was coming out for sure. The biggest stress was when I went on a tour of Europe about
3 months after RP. I had been having the bio-feed back/electro-stim and seemed to be making a little progress. But on that walking tour, as well as being on a bus all day, and touring beer brewers, where bathrooms were hard to come by, man I was fighting it all day. My larger pads would be so soaked at the end of those days, they were heavy! It was misery.
But, in retrospect, I always felt all that walking and trying to hold it in, benefited me. After that, I seemed to get better faster. I did resume the bio-feedback treatments. After 6 months or a year, (not sure), I have not really worn any pad except on certain occasions for psychological support. I wear the smallest pads(guards?) maybe 1 day a week on average, or maybe every day if flying or on a long trip. But really, they are never needed. I have small spasms even almost 5 years later, that cause a drop or 2 to escape once or twice a day, but nothing ever gets through to the outside. And when I wear those guards, when I remove the one daily guard before bedtime, it never really feels wet, not even damp. So I don't really ever need them, except in my mind.
Please keep this in mind: sometimes you just have to heal, and that can take months. It is unpredictable. Your bladder and your anastomosis (where your urethra was stitched back together) must heal. If you are among those whose anastomosis falls down into your sphincter especially when you stand up, no amount of strength from Kegels is going to be able to squeeze the urethra scar and those stitches closed. The stitches will have to be absorbed and the swelling and scar tissue will have to shrink, and that might take months. In addition, bladder spasms can take months ( your badder was traumatized as well as your urethra! ) If your bladder is inflamed and traumatized, it can maintain a constant contraction state that forces urine out. It can take a while, but it almost always settles back down.
If all else fails, there are surgical repair options that work pretty quick. But you want to make sure you will not heal any more before you do that. I was still healing slowly even 18 months out. Do you know if you had a very large prostate? Tho can take longer to heal, but in the end, they heal at the same rate as the smaller prostates.
So hang in there, brother!
