Forum Redesign

Hello all!

Today we launched a much anticipated forum redesign to match the new look and feel of the rest of the web site. I hope you like it. This new design offers many benefits. Most significant among these is that it is now mobile friendly and easy to use from your smartphone or mobile device.

There are still a few cobwebs we have to clear and screens that need fixing. These include the My Profile section, the Profile page, the Members listing, Active Users screen, and a few administrative screens. We will be tweaking these in the weeks ahead. Also the Help section is a bit outdated and will be revised ASAP.

You'll notice one obvious item missing. We don't have chat functionality anymore. Our chat software was just too outdated. I'll be looking at more modern solutions in the days and weeks ahead that maybe we could integrate.

Anyway, check out the changes. I think you'll enjoy it. Just reply to this thread with any problems you may run into. I may not be able to respond to everyone's comments but I will be tracking them. Thanks so much!

The new look seems contemporary, fresh. I like it.

Is there, or will there be, a way to "ignore" a thread? We can ignore a particular user, and that includes threads started by that user. But it would be helpful if we could somehow hide a thread by some kind of ignore function. Thanks!

Wow! What happened? My initial thought is I don’t like it. I do everything from my iPhone, so maybe it will be better for me. I’m skeptical of the new design, but I will give it a fair chance and report my thoughts again later.

I just tried the forum on my iPhone. Works much better than the old site. Layout looks good.

It did seem to be a bit slower, but that could have been my connection.

Love the new design!! Huge improvement, particularly for mobile use. I am traveling and viewing this from my iPhone. No longer need microscope to read text and the overall look and feel is much more in line with best practices today. Thank you for doing this. Highly appreciated.

Okay, quickly changing my mind from my initial skepticism. New design is a lot better for my iPhone. No longer have to expand text to read and write posts. MUCH easier to write posts. Easier to copy and paste. The “Last Seen” function is a big time saver. Making my use of the site easier. Small suggestion: add a “back to top” button at the last post.

I just tried my iPhone. HUGE improvement. Much easier to view and post, on the go.

Admin:

Under the old forum format, the "modified envelope" icon on the left identified threads previously read by the logged on user which had no subsequent replies added (no interest, skip).

The "intact envelope" icon on the left identified two different cases:
1. Threads not previously read (no "last seen" indicator, if interested, start at beginning).
2. Threads previously read, to which new replies had been added (position to new replies using "last seen" indicator).

It appears to me that the new format does not provide a means to identify these three cases, one from another.

The goal is to go directly to new business in threads of interest. The old format made this easy. I cannot see how the new format makes this possible.

The bubble is not working for me as you describe. I logged off, logged back on later. An old thread had been updated, and moved to the top of the list. The bubble was gray.

Right now, one cannot distinguish between:
1. a thread previously viewed having new replies,
and
2. a thread previously viewed having no new replies.

Much nicer on my iPhone and IPad a nice material design change in UI. Wonder how it will look in Windows 10 with chrome. No glitches so far.
