We have lost a brother

We have lost a brother, John M from Houston passed away on Saturday, at the age of 55. I had the pleasure of meeting him and his wife, Christine, at the GFMPH gathering at Cajun Jeff's in 2017. I don't remember his stats. What I do remember is his energy, his love of life, and his resolve to join the battle.

RIP John, and for Christine, we are all standing with you.

John was dealt a terrible hand at a young age. Diagnosed about 3 years ago at about age 51. As I remember his PSA was 29, most all the cores positive with G10 and extensive distant Mets. His medical team used everything available and his his first year of treatment he used ADT, Provenge and chemotherapy. Followed by more chemotherapy second line ADT and I believe radiation and even more chemotherapy. Unfortunately, his cancer was just too much. He stopped treatment a few weeks ago.

Lee and I are enriched by our brief friendship with John and Chris. Wonderful, faithful and genuine people. I never heard John complain though his treatments in the second year were really taking their toll. In the midst of all this Chris was treated for breast cancer.

Chris is so supportive of John and all our brothers fighting this vile disease. She posted here several times under the handle “Number One Fan”.

I never knew John but may have read some of his posts (dunno for sure). It is always sad to lose a brother to PCa as we all know it is a slow painful death. JNF's comment about his wife fighting cancer in the middle of his treatment really hit home. I consider myself very fortunate that my wife appreciates the complexities of this disease.

I too was privileged to meet John and Christine. What a wonderful couple. So sad. May he Rest In Peace, and May his family find peace as well.

My understanding is that Chris and John have a very strong and broad support groups both in Houston and New Orleans where they have houses. They are very social and active in their church and communities. They also have young sons college and high school ages. They have both expressed to me how important the people on Healing Well have been and the GFMPH connections they made at Pat and Jeff's home in Baton Rouge.

I was very blessed to have met them at GFMPH. We had many long discussions, as there was a small group of us who had those extreme cases to deal with. John's upbeat approach to the battle, and Chris's understanding both are something I remember every day, and use to remind myself that we may not be in control, but we can certainly make what we have control of better.

May Christine and John’s loved ones find Peace and Comfort during this painful loss.

I am very sorry to hear this. Peace and comfort now I hope for a life lived in love. Whatever the stage of the journey, I know that love makes it better. In each day, it is the sacred gift, it is everything to a husband, father, son, brother, or friend who walks this path.

Sounds like John and Christine made the best of a terrible situation. I take solace reading about a young guy being dealt such a bad hand handling it with grace and courage. Condolences to Christine, the family and friends. RIP, John.
