Starting Treatment for My Metastatic Prostate Cancer

My prostate cancer diagnosed Gleason 3 + 3 in 2011 and treated with brachytherapy in 2011 is now a metastatic disease with many lymph nodes involved. Today I took the first Casodex pill in preparation for the first Lupron shot in two weeks time. Previously, I was treated with ADT and cyberknife in 2016/2017 for a local recurrence in a mass outside the prostate.

Sorry you're starting this part of the journey. Since you've already been on ADT, you're probably familiar how quickly it stops the cancer in its tracks. I hope this goes well for you and manage this as a chronic disease for many, many years.

If nodes are regional in the pelvic area and were not previously radiated - radiation may be an option?

There is no guarantee that the metastases are only in the only in the nodes that lighted up in the scan. Also the nodes are all over the pelvic region. We will look into radiation option. But now it is important to stop the cancer growing with hormone.

Good luck to you going forward. Yours is a heartbreaking story and hopefully you will be successful in stopping the beast. But I gotta ask... and I know it's a bit late in the game, and it wouldn't change anything... but did you ever consider surgery for your 3+3 seven years ago? Maybe dismissed it due to age? Just curious, as you've already had radiation twice, and many on this message board tend to view radiation as the only way to go.

I did nor consider surgery because of age related risks and because it appeared to be overkill for my low grade and low volume cancer.

That's the trouble with needle (TRUS) biopsies. They seldom detect all the tumors present and 30% of the time those hidden tumors are more aggressive than the G-6 that was discovered..
