Regret over treatment

Had RRP 4/13, continent after a little over 2 months, 15% ED(just a guess). With Cialis when needed, have had a wonderfull sex life until running into Lupron a few months ago. Enrolled in a clinical trial Aug./18 where a PSMA Pet scan showed up 2 lymph nodes with small lesions. It was decided that surgery was difficult so surgeon recommended RT and ADT hopeing for a cure as the location of the lymph nodes could be pin pointed on the scan for direct involvement of radiation. We will see in a number of months.

No regrets here.

Dave, your attitude is great and something I admire but simply do not have myself. I have trouble understanding how men whose first choice treatment failed and then had to go on to further treatment don't have any regret. While I have no regret myself it's largely because my first choice worked beautifully with cancer control and no side effects. However, if my treatment had failed I would personally regret not adding IMRT to my protocol or having surgery instead. Or...if I had serious SE's I would regret my choice and wonder if another one would have been better.

I guess it's these differences in attitude that make life interesting....

It was made clear to me, before surgery,that when PC invades the lymph nodes, there is no cure. 5 1/2 years ago, after surgery, even if I went with ADT and RT, the PC would have already traveled into the lymph system and correct me if I am wrong, ADT and RT will only slow the progression of the disease. With this new PSMA Pet scan, the visible PC could be detected and thus treated with ADT and very specific, targeted RT. I have had 5.5 years of very active and healthy living after surgery without any treatments or drugs(unless Cialis counts) and I am hopeing that the RT and ADT have snuffed out the remaining PC but deep down in side, I believe that there will be more treatments down the road, something that has to be endured but not regretted. Hope this explains my situation.

I find it very suspect when anyone says they have never had regret about anything at any time in their life. I don’t see how that is possible. I think it’s very possible to let go of regret, so maybe people can say truthfully say they have no regrets.

I have no regrets about my treatments, other than they didn’t work. Had my RP worked, I’d probably be beeching about how badly my Uro sliced me up, and I should have done RT instead. And if I had chosen RT as primary treatment I’d be wondering if an RP would have cured me.

You just can’t win by ruminating in regret. Best to let it go at some point.

Mr Bill put this regret schtick to rest " somewhere in time " and y'all think Im crazy...on n on...waiting for the now and the truth as it stands directly in front of " eyes wide shut "...with a calculated calculus benefiting... bereft of thought and sadly even self...

It's easy to say I wish I had this or that differently. As already mentioned, this is how we learn. I tend to believe that we were meant to go down the path we have walked. If my PCa had indeed been treated in 2012 when it first became evident, then I would have likely never learned about the four cancers that I've now faced, or perhaps the subsequent three would have been addresses much differently.

Fortunately the last two turned out to not be cancer at all. But were it not for the lessons learned with the first (PCa) then the same lesson would have likely been learned somewhere further down the road. "Sometimes things happen for a reason".
