Hello Mr. Bill,
My ZYTIGA has now gone generic, just in the past few weeks, so now my medication is simply labeled ABIRATERONE ACETATE, rather than by the brand name of ZYTIGA.
For those who don't know this, ZYTIGA is now in generic form. It is still rather expensive, but somewhat cheaper than the brand name medication. In my case, my work insurance covers the cost of the medication. I did have to get my prescription transferred over to the generic version.
Yes, ZYTIGA (Abiraterone Acetate) is considered a chemo-hormonal medication.
For my own goal-setting, I keep all my ZYTIGA bottles lined up on a shelf, just as a way to mark my progress on this medication. I have been on ZYTIGA for over 40 months now.
All other empty medication bottles, I completely remove the prescription label, and thoroughly wash the empty prescription bottles. I donate these to a community mission project --- these clean, empty medication bottles are then sent to impoverished areas in Africa.
My main oncologist is originally from Africa, and he has described how many times, they only have small scraps of paper in which to wrap pills --- which can then be damaged by humidity or rainstorms. So, I have found a new need for these empty prescription bottles now.
I like the thought of the clean, empty medication bottles helping people, rather than ending up in the landfill. The place where I donate has shipped thousands of these clean prescription bottles to Africa.
With my very best,
