Weight Loss while on ADT?

Started ADT August 22nd. After a couple of months I started gaining some weight, and crept up from 185 at start of ADT to 196 about 2 weeks ago. I hadn’t been real careful about diet, so I started doing so. Lost about 3 pounds in a week. Since then I’ve been losing about a pound a day. I’ve mostly lost the spare tire I’d developed on ADT, around my belly.

3 days ago I was 192. Each day since then, I’ve lost a pound. I’m down to 189. Normally this would be a good thing. But this is while, Friday night I had 3 slices of pizza, and a small portion of pasta. Yesterday I had a huge breakfast, 3 eggs, bacon, home fries, and a huge onion roll smothered in butter. For dinner last night I had fried calamari, linguini with seafood, and cookie dough ice cream. And still, I’ve lost 2 pounds in 2 days, so the trend is continuing. It can’t be water weight with the foods I’ve eaten the last 3 days.
Normally I’d be thrilled. But really I’m on ADT this shouldn’t be happening.

Only thing I can think, over the last week I’ve upped my physical activity by swimming 20 - 30 minutes a day. But I don’t think that would cause rapid weight loss , without dieting l especially while on ADT.
I’m a month away from what’s supposed to be the end of my 6 month course of ADT. Could it be wearing off early? I’m still getting night sweats, and flashes. I wake up 2-3 x a night and need a towel.

I’m in Florida for the winter and don’t even have a Dr down here

Any thoughts? Am I needlessly alarmed? Am I lookingva gift horse in the mouth?

Pratoman, I've not lost any weight while on ADT. In fact, my weight has not fluctuated at all like it used to. I have increased my physical activity as well to counter muscle loss with no noticeable weight loss.Technically I'm 2 weeks past my 6 month end date of Lupron and I'm having more hot flashes than ever. I don't think this stuff wears off early. I'd give it a few more days and see if the trend continues before getting too worried. In the mean time, whens breakfast? That menu sounded pretty good, better than the oatmeal I had.

Hi Prato,

I put on about 6 pounds over the holiday which was rare for me. Since we have gotten to Florida, we have been out walking 3 - 4 miles a day and have now lost 3 pounds. We are going to start our bike riding this week, so it will be interesting to see what happens. I will be happy to get back to 160 pounds or so.
I also think most of my weight gain is in my belly.
Can't wait until February 7th when my initial Lupron sentence is over...

It's been 7 weeks since my last six month Lupron started to wear off and I'm still having to watch pretty closely what I eat and how much exercise I get.

My weight is down some from my highest weight of 185 lbs that I hit right after Thanksgiving, it's around 179 or 180 now (I weighed 165 lbs when I started on the Lupron).

Off to the races...to answer your question...all of the above...about not having a doctor there...I go back to...it does not take a genius to resolve that issue...Hence...

It's a known fact that people weigh less in Florida. It has to do with the earth's rotation, center of gravity, and the humidity.

Pratoman, Something to watch for sure but probably good news and reward for the swimming. Are you tracking weight same time each day?

I started ADT in November and I've been tracking my weight since. It increased a few pounds (162->165), and then has been steady and/or slightly back down depending on day. Not sure of cause/effect, as it doesn't always correlate to the previous days food and drink. I like to "forget" I'm on ADT (when possible) and still exercise daily, mainly surfing. I haven't started weights yet but swimming seems a good antidote to the drug. I always feel better afterwards, at least if I catch waves. My PSA dropped from 4.5 to 0.37 in the first 4 weeks so I guess the ADT is working. My vote would be to keep up the swimming and just keep on eye on weight -- if it continues dropping over a longer period without explanation then check with MO?

Thanks for the responses. Guess I’ll just monitor it. PGDuane, yep, I’m weighing in each day in the morning.
I don’t have an MO, only an RO. I guess if it continues I’ll check in with him first before I go to my primary care doctor in New York when I get back but hopefully I’ll get them to a desirable wait and stabilize.

I find that hard to believe that five days of swimming 30 minutes would be enough to cause me to lose weight

I've been on ADT, 6 month Eligard shot in late November and Zytiga since early December. At this point I have lost about 23 lbs. Never did have any weight gain. I've had kind of a strange experience in a number of ways in that I have not experienced much of what others have along the way

Ive said it before and after(no pics)...we are all uniquely the same( re.randyd response to adt ))...some more so than others...oops...this is the wrong thread for that...naw...the Gourdian Knot...btw where is JackH..et all...our brother from many different mothers...I do wonder about him...trust all is well...

Suggest you check your weight with a different scale. And weigh yourself first thing in the morning after urination. You should not be losing 1 lb per day ! If you stop eating carbs most people tend to lose water weight until their body reaches a new equilibrium but not day after day. You would need to be short about 3500 calories to lose one pound in a day - meaning less eating or more exercising.

Well things seem to have stabilized. I've been eating well, not really dieting, not gaining but haven't lost any more weight in the last few days. Hopefully i will get back to low carb, low cal, and start losing some more weight, on purpose, at a healthy pace.

I continue to swim laps 30 minutes a day

Intermittent ADT for 5+ years.
Weight loss, heck no.
At one point I gained 40 lbs.
I've lost most of that, intentionally though.

i lost weight once, but it's okay - i found it after a few months.

it was just sitting in the kitchen, right among the frozen pies...

I could lose weight but I don't like losers.......was on a great diet/workout routine pre-ADT and kept losing weight...got a little worried I was losing too much weight..........wish I could get that worry back.....now worried about suit for wedding next month.......but I'll never give up Handel's Ice Cream.....I am not a quitter.
