Welcome to all Gleason 9 and 10 folks! (Also could be the Grade Group 5 Crew, using the newer terminology.)

This is the least favorite chapter of the club no one wants to join, but we are here to support each other. This roster was begun originally out of curiosity to see how many members here had which Gleason scores. It turned out to be more useful and of interest to many others.

This is now the Fourth thread in this series. (As they become too long the forum software can't handle them).

As a reminder, this roster, this "crew", this thread (and the prior three), is only meant to be a gathering place for those facing this aggressive diagnosis. It's not exclusionary, it's not elitist, it's not maudlin. It's meant to be a place where those with similar diagnoses can swap notes, ask questions, vent, and to be understood for the personal concerns even others with lower-risk PCa may not seem to grasp.

Discussions can be held in this thread. Feel free to start your own on the main page too, if you prefer. It may be more effective to hold the discussions here, due to the intended focus. Any time an update is posted this thread goes to the top of the front page again so all see it. In the first thread we mostly interacted within the thread, and it seemed to work ok. Whatever you prefer. This is here as a resource for us all.

It will help those following us if you'd post your story, even a brief version, including:
1) How did you find out,
2) how did you choose your treatment,
3) and how are you doing?

I'm new to posting on a forum, never done it till now as I'm sure you can tell. I wasn't sure what happened to the above post after I submitted it! Please put my posts where they need to be. ~LjK

LadyJane, of course you are free to post anywhere you want! I only locked/copied/pasted because it appeared that you meant the post to go to this thread. That's a common mistake even among vets...see the "No Subject" thread...LOL. Anyway, I unlocked the other one if that is helpful so now it's in both places.

Feeling pretty decent after late January M.O. meeting, all numbers are good on Zytiga with my
Psa now falling to 0.86 I had recently just moved to another city and changed M.O. to new city. I am happy with new doctor. Will have to see how low it can go and stay there!

Just an update. Finished ADT. My last lupron shot was in July of 2018. So my “release date” was October 2018, if I am correct? I have an appointment with my MO for this Friday for PSA and T level check. My numbers at the October test were still great. We’ll see what 4 months off ADT brings. Hopefully nothing.

Adding a post here to join the 4+5 group. Joined the group last July when hubby was first diagnosed. He is now on the ADT and radiation journey. Praying we will be here for a very long time!

Did you chose the “triple play” over surgery?

LJK,
Like many others, my urologist was very anxious to send me to surgery. Before I left his office the day I got the news, he already had me set up to do surgery. Then again, urologists are surgeons. I did some homework and with some advice from others here, became my own advocate for my care and treatment. I opted for an opinion from doctors who live in the world of Pca. In my area, Sloan Kettering was my choice. I had appointments with a surgeon there and also radiation doctors. As a team, they reviewed my diagnosis and the surgeon is the one who said my best option would be radiation. I got an appointment with Michael Zelefsky, a top doc in the brachy field. I had my brachy done in Manhattan and my SBRT radiation at a satellite of MSK in NJ. The team at MSK planned my treatment, “triple play” LDR brachy, SBRT, and 18 months of ADT. Their theory was this was the best chance for a cure without the side effects of both surgery and radiation since with the amount of cancer I have, the horse may have stuck his head out of the barn already, so to speak....🙂

Welcome to our little club of 9’s and 10’s. Finding a doctor you are comfortable with and a center you like are paramount. You have a tough diagnosis. Resolve yourself to get thru this. There are others here who are also going thru similar diagnosis as you. I’m sure some of the G10’s will be by.

Maleko, welcome to our small group; I've added you to the G10 list. You're in the smallest part of this universe as a G10, and you do have a fight on your hands. There are many treatments, and more all the time. With modern methods doctors have been successful keeping this stuff under control for a long time. There's hope!

Stay with us, ask questions, vent, whatever you need. We're just a bunch of folks with this disease, and even as unusual as yours is you'll find those here who may be in similar situations, may be able to help you with questions, may be able to provide some support.

Sadly my husband's PSA is still on the rise with Zytiga. Now 1.61. Next month he is scheduled for CT, Bone and PET scans ... so will see what those produce. We were really hoping that after Provenge, the Zytiga course would really keep the monster at bay for awhile, but, it isn't looking like it. He really isn't looking forward to any kind of chemo. He has been getting some pain ... shoulder and also around his knee. He's hoping it is just old age and not the cancer. We are keeping up hope ....

As a fellow G10'er and perhaps one of only two of us om the board right now, welcome to a group no one wants to be a part of. As already noted, learn all you can and ask lots of questions before you make any big decisions. You do have lots of choices ahead of you.
I was diagnosed at about the same time you were.I have had radiation and ADT but holding off on chemo as long as my PSA stays down. It started at 9.8 and is now at 0.07. It's a tough diagnosis to get at first but you can have great success in fighting it

Hello Maleko, good you've joined. Good luck w your treatment.

My husband is doing well on the Casodex, we get results of the MRI on Tues. w the surgeon. Not sure if they will start him on Lupron. The nurses haven't seen any orders for that yet. They are very pro-surgery at his facility, we've had to continuously request a referral to see an RO. We're in Canada so I'm not sure why/how that plays into things @this point. My husband is leaning towards surgery if he has a choice; after hearing that salvage surgery post radiation is not recommended. This surgeon keeps mentioning how young he is, & that we have to do something. At this point the MRI would have to show extreme prostate bed infiltration before this option is off the table. We'll see if this second surgeon agrees. My husband feels like he doesn't have a choice.
What if radiation fails? I agree it is a tough call. Any thoughts?

Hi,
I was diagnosed on Feb. 6th after a CT, Bone scan MRI and Biopsy ( 11 of 12, 2- 9(4+5), 7- 8(4+4) and 3 - 7(4+3). Gleason 9.
Had my first shot at Mayo Phoenix ( Feb. 6th ) with Zytiga & Predinsone ( 2 weeks on the pills at this time ) with the Lupron starting on March 6th. I do exercise and have basically an Organic diet.
Question: What should I expect as normal side effects?
Any other suggestions and help would be appreciated.
