Going back under the knife again

Noon tomorrow. Surgery #15, unrelated to the PCa. This is a revision to the septoplasty that was done last April, but which instead left me with a collapsed nasal valve. Then as luck would have it, an ophthalmologist ordered a brain CT that revealed a bone deformity in my skull. Who'da thunk.

So tomorrow a "base of skull" specialist is going to chip away some bone and put collagen implants on either side of my nose. If any of this sounds vaguely familiar it's because I had posted about it here last summer, when this had been originally scheduled. But then that mass was discovered in my abdomen and everything had to be postponed. Hoping to come up for air eventually.

PSA is still undetectable, and essentially so is the testosterone... which could be a lot worse.

Thanks everyone... Surgery went well. Arrived at noon, home at 4PM and slept most of the day. Several dressing changes and the bleeding had stopped by 11PM. Just some mild pain like a sinus infection and only light bruising so far.

Unlike the original surgery last April, my nose is actually open this time, just stuffy and a bit crusty. Not bad for the day after. Wearing reading glasses is uncomfortable but that should pass in a week or two. Sleeping with the head elevated on the sofa (my favorite place), the best place for that. I'm expecting a non-eventful recovery. Thanks again!

Geez RobLee, what surgery have you not had yet? Maybe I can give you some ideas for future surgeries?

LOL... about half of them were revision surgeries, or taking out something that had been put in. No heart surgeries... and I hope it stays that way. Or back surgery. I hear they NEVER work out right.

Well that just made up for the week I spent in the hospital back in Oct-Nov. I guess it all balances out. I hadn't spent more than a single day in a hospital since 2005. Before that it was early eighties.

Hospitals seem to be a lot more scary nowadays, with C-diff and MRSA. But some things never change... the delirious borderline psychotic in the room next door who screams all night, demanding the full attention of the entire nursing staff so you can't get your pain med for an hour and a half. Meals that arrive two hours after mealtime and they put the tray on the opposite side of the room. Little stuff.
