Hi all,
Sunday, Feb 17 marks 4 years since the long walk from the top of the parking garage to the surgery center at Barnes-Jewish hospital in downtown St. Louis.
Four years of challenges, 4 years of joys, 4 years of fantastic friendships. 4 years of hopefully helping a few of you.
I do consider myself one of the fortunate ones. I had a post-surgery pathology upgrade, from relatively low density G6 to G7 in all 4 quadrants. I've had really good outcomes when it comes to ED and continence, so that is a positive as well.
My main perspective is to keep up what I've tried to do. Share my own experience, what I've learned, what happened with me, go through my decision process. I think a few key points for all the newbies from a guy who has been there....
* A PC diagnosis, even a really bad one (talking to you G9 guys) is rarely a death sentence these days--many, many men are still kicking years after diagnosis.
* Treatments are getting better all the time. Less invasive, fewer risks of bad side effects, better outcomes. Really.
* There is a true brotherhood among us. No, we don't go marching and have parades and all that. But anyone in this forum is a brother--and maybe someday I'll start a round the country (or round the world?) tour and visit some of you. Any of you is welcome at my door, anytime.
All I want to say, guys (and ladies too), is keep up the good work, keep the faith, and get out there and LIVE. None of us is guaranteed tomorrow.
