14 months post High Dose Brachytherapy, I still wake up at night four (4) to five (5) times to pee. Has anybody experienced this type of side effect? I will appreciate if you can share with me how you were able to deal with it. I have been on Flomax 0.4mg. I have also tried Rapaflo.

I had HDR eight years ago and have never had the problem. What does your urologist suggest?

As starters I suggest you stop taking fluids three or four hours before bedtime and see what happens. How many times a day do you go while awake? Are you fully voiding each time you go, day and night?

I had HDR brachy and I didn't have that problem either. I would say that when I have the urge to pee, it's stronger than it used to be, but not nearly as much as what you're going through. I do take an occasional Rapaflo to help me pee...it seems to work better than Flomax for me.

All I can suggest is talking to your RO about this. I can imagine it's extremely frustrating!

I had hdr 14 months ago also and get up once per night as I did before procedure. I take tamsulosin. Mabe that would help. Denis

Had LDR and external radiation, I had nocturia prior to treatment, 2-3 times a night, and it's about the same. Talked to a urologist, he says it's from the treatment, but doc, I had this prior to,and still have it. Need a new urologist I guess

The RO and primary care recommended Myrbetriq. I decided against taking more drugs. Keep one of those plastic hospital urinals on the nightstand. Pretty good at urinating without fully waking.

Not typical but not unheard of. Maybe there are other meds besides Rapaflo and Flomax you can try. Would think after this time things would've quieted down - but everybody is different. I have a friend who is prob about a year and a half out of combo IMRT/SBRT therapy who still gets up several times a night. Is your uro trying different dosages/therapies?

Thanks for your responses. Just like Fauntleroy, my Uro is recommending Myrbetrig while primary care wants me to try Finasteride.

You should try one. I'd tend to believe the URO over the PCP, but try one and see if that helps.

I've been on finasteride since end of treatment, does nothing for the nocturia. Try what the URO recommended, might work for you. I might give it a try myself.

I had SBRT, see sig, I have had several periods, one to two months, where I needed some help with the urinary SE's.
I was taking 2 X .4mg flowmax. when things started getting a little better I quit the flowmax and went back to the herb "Pygeum". I am doing great at this point. Pygeum works very well for urgency and frequency. It is reported that it lowers PSA but so does flowmax and finesteride as does rapaflow, which I think is basically a combo of flowmax and finesteride.

Pygeum is available from Amazon and other sources. It is a base for most of the "Prostate" help formulas. It was recommended to me by my Uro.

Finesteride works by reducing the size of the prostate. It take up to 6 months to become fully effective.
