Urgency to urinate - No RRP

My husband is starting to experience urgency to urinate - if he has to ignore it (no restroom) it can go away. He hasn't had any accidents or leakage (that I know of).

I was just wondering if this is something that should be mentioned to the MO at his next visit later this week. His blood work last week showed a very, very slight rise in his PSA from <.06 to .01, the first rise in over a year, and is starting Provenge this week.

You should mention it. But there isn't much that can be done. Maybe he can get a med to help, but mostly he just needs to learn to manage it.

I have a mental map of every men's room in my city and know how long it takes for a drink of water to turn to an urgent need to pee.

83.2 minutes in my case.

Did you mean 0.06 -> 0.10 ? Both are low for no surgery.

My MO told me to talk to my Urologist for plumbing issues. I started with a feeling of urgency, a few months later increased frequency and then serious difficulty at times going. We ended up doing a TURP, solved all those problems.

Confused about those PSA values.
0.01 is less than .06

SS there was a < sign in front of the .06
My uro told me it was a good sign if when yhou really needed to pee you could indeed postpone for awhile.

Thank you all! He probably needs to find an urologist - the one he was sent to after the GP did the DRE and PSA neither one of us really liked. When we asked what were the side effects from Lupron he just shrugged his shoulders and said hot flashes. I understand NOW why he said that (no other choice at that time with mets already established), but it seemed dismissive to two people who just realized their lives would never be the same.

A change from >0.06 to 0.01 probably means that they have switched labs and the new lab uses a more sensitive assay. The first result says, in effect, "Our machine can measure down to 0.06 ng/ml and the machine doesn't see anything." The second number means "Our machine measured the PSA at 0.01 ng/ml and that value is within the range it can measure."

It doesn't actually say whether his PSA went up, or down, or stayed the same.

No reason not to mention his urgency to his MO but he should probably also see his urologist, too.
