Well, my post operative PSA reading is.....0.2

Well, as compared to my initial PSA of 12.44, I suppose I should be somewhat relieved. But I was REALLY hoping for 00.00 Regardless, this is the test taken at 6 weeks. Since there may be a couple of rogue cells floating around, I will remain positive until I get re-tested in June. But hey, My Uro. said he was very pleased with my progress post-op....99% urinary control since Foley was removed, full nerve function...maybe need a little air in the tire, its early yet.

Post surgery you have to be undetectable but six weeks is a little early. Your 90 day test will tell you much more. With 10 of 12 cores positive and a lot of G4 you realize that this greatly increases the probability of also needing radiation in addition to the surgery. Very good to see the healing progressing well. That you have regained significant continence and nerve function should indicate that the inherent surgical damage was minimal. That is great. Now lets hope that the surgery was successful for cancer control. Only time will tell.

Although 6 weeks is kind of early, there is still some expectation that a post RP PSA will be undetectable by 6 weeks. You will have much better evidence that the RP worked, or didn’t, at the next PSA. If it turns out the surgery didn’t get it, you still have a shot with RT.

I was .13 at six weeks post-RP but went down to <.05 at twelve weeks. So there’s hope.
Of course, it later rose again and I ended up needing RT. A never-ending story.

Mr. Mayor, so far so good. Reality also is...that they wouldn't start radiation till you hit 3 months anyway. I can't cite any pubs, but there are a lot of docs who do the 6 week test to make sure things are heading in the right direction--knowing that it adds un-needed stress to the patient.

Either way, you're heading the right way, your healing is going fine. Celebrate!

Your PSA should keep dropping and everything else will get better in time.

Congrats. That is the same PSA number I got 2 weeks after surgery. I also have a G7 cancer. That is more 'high risk' than some folks think. wink

Yep - GG's was 0.02 at that point but tottered slowly down to zero. Hang in there! You're doing great in relation to your recovery so far. Fingers crossed for your 12 week test.

Post-RP PSA is dependent primarily on two factors: the "success" of the operation, and the pre-surgery PSA value. If surgery was a "success" (thereby completely removing the source of new PSA generation), then the metabolic clearance from the blood serum is driven by the half-life of PSA, which varies narrowly between 2-3 days. Worst case, one could figure that the surgery caused a 2X (count one more doubling/halfing) surge in PSA from the last PSA test value, and then figure 4 days half-life. For this reason, most surgeons wait a little longer than 6-weeks before prescribing the first follow-up test...8-weeks is more typical.

Well I'm optimistic about my future regarding the PSA number.....Now about this KIDNEY STONE!

Yeah, a kidney stone. Only 1mm, but the S.O.B. felt like a freight train going through my ureter, and its been in hiding somewhere in my bladder ever since. NEVER IN MY LIFE have I had any medical issues until I addressed this Pca and quit ALL of my bad habits, lol. Now I'm the fattest I've ever been, I'm retaining fluid like a pregnant woman, still have yet to pass this little joker, I've consumed five gallons of lemon and/or apple cider vinegar infused water and olive oil shots......I'm peeing vinaigrette for God's sake!
I think I'm just going to buy a pack of smokes, a twelve pack and some fried chicken and be done with it, lol.

Mild kidney stone pain is not so much different from some bladder spams. I know because I had stone issues two years before my prostate surgery and sporadic spams up to two and a half months later. Now, I am free from both, I hope they will not return but who knows for sure... You are less than 3 months after your surgery, therefore it is possible your problems are not from the tiny stone. Sorry about your other issues and l hope the 3-months psa test will show a very low number or just zero.
