Who to see at Dana Farber

A new friend has a husband who was recently diagnosed: 55 years old, PSA 26, Gleason 9 (5+4), 11/12 cores positive. They are in the process of getting scans. They live in Massachusetts and want to go to Dana Farber for treatment. Any recommendations for a surgeon and a radiation oncologist to see there?

Radiation oncologist Dr. Paul Nguyen at DF isn't my husband's oncologist, but a couple men we know just raved about him, especially for high-risk situations like your friend's. Surgery might not be such a great option for someone with 5+4 Gleason 9 since "the horse is out of the barn" i.e. he would surely require ADT and radiation later on anyway.

I would see Adam Kibel, head of Urologic Surgery and Paul Nguyen (I would call him smartly aggressive).

They are quality people and top-notch care givers.

Before you do anything, talk to MOs Mark Pomertantz at DFCI, or Dr. Matthew at Tufts. Will give you a great 2nd onion, discuss all options. These guys are not cutters or nukers, will give you an independent review of your situation.
