Ubetternoit and All,
Yes, I am still out here but have not been on HW for quite a while. I had my AUS/AMS 800 in August 2010 and you can see my threads and journey in past posts.
I am now 75 and life is good. In better shape now than when I had RP in 2008. My AUS is still working fine. I could never claim "no leakage" and it has gotten a little more over the years. I can easily get by with one pad a day depending on what I am doing. I keep all levels of Tena pads on hand from very light shields to the extra heavy. I buy them directly from the web site www.tena.com. I like them better than Depends. I use the extra heavy/level 3 on golf days since swinging the club will cause some leakage. I wear Jockey boxer briefs with the horizonal flap
opening. I find they work best with pads.
Any of you who worry about
doing the AUS should not. It's the best solution out there for those of us who are beyond doing a sling. My life is completely normal. You will adjust and you will behave just like anyone else. Results may vary from almost totally dry to some stress leakage based on what I have learned. We are all different as are the Uro's who install these things. As previously noted be sure to find a Uro that does big quantities of these and learn about
their success. Takes some digging but not that hard. It is worth traveling if you need to, to find a Uro that does them weekly/daily with good success rates.
In my one post noted above I mentioned how to pee standing at a urinal and the guy next to you will not even know your have an AUS. Learned this on HW. Just hold willie with one hand and run the other down inside your pants, between your briefs and pants, to squeeze the bulb. Also, when finished I just give a little push on the perineum (under your scrotum) to squirt out the residual. Better than squeezing your willie, although I'm not against that
. I'm not patient enough to wait the 20-30 seconds or so for the AUS to completely close. Just do that push and since I wear a light pad it will catch any remailing drops.
They say the AUS can go as much as 10-15 years before failure.I did a lot of research on doing revision surgery a couple of years ago. I found two Uro's who do loads of them. One in Seattle and one in San Francisco. When I described my situation to them they both suggested that it would probably be best for me to wait until leakage got worse or the AUS failed completely. I even traveled from Reno to San Francisco University for a personal consultation with the one Uro. He said he even does revisions successfully for guys in their 80s. Bottom line is if that your life is good why risk more surgery. You will learn that a little leakage with one pad a day is no big deal if you learn how to manage it.... and get your attitude right.
Sorry for the ramble but glad to share more or talk to anyone if you want. email me at
[email protected]. I learned more on HW than I ever did talking to doctors.
