Question concerning hot flashes....
Other than the obvious warmth, What else do you guy's feel.
For me, My skin kinda feels tingly or slightly numbing.
And has anyone tried taking their temp while having a hot flash, I did once, But was surprised I had no temp....
And it seams to me that activity brings on a hot flash....
Am I just weird, Our has anyone else noticed any of these symptoms.

My I am just about 4 weeks out from my first shot. No tingling or numbing feeling. But I do get the hot flashes. Seem pretty mild so far, not even a hot or warm feeling. I just start to sweat, it lasts about a minute, then I feel cool.

I do wake up in the AM feeling a little clammy, so I guess I’m getting night sweats, but not bad enough to wake me in the middle of the night

Hot flashes vary all over the scale.

Mine have always been instant extreme heat on the back of my neck and forehead, enough that I keep cold packs in my and my neighbor's freezers. Maybe a little flushing, but often none. But generally they are dry, with little or no sweat. That comes with the night sweats, which are a whole different thing.

A good friend's hot flashes are the extreme opposite - flush red, dripping sweat like he came out of a sauna.

But I've never heard of anyone having a noticeable increase in body temperature. I've tried measuring that, and never have seen a change.

I am 4 months in on a six-month Lupron tour. I have had pins and needles, warm tingling up the legs, chest and a warm glow like overheating. What I do is get in a cool place, throw off the sheets and remember this is transitory. All-in-all for the outcome I am willing to deal with it. Also remembering that millions of women have managed to for thousands of years. I know there are other side effects from long-term use, but if it keeps you alive and you are enjoying life it is nice to have the option. Also as others have said you need to exercise more than you ever have. It should be a mix of things including resistance training, pushups and crunches, walking fast long distances or running, biking, swimming, tennis and whatever it is do it every day. It will reduce the hot flashes! You can do it a little at a time but you need goals! Tomorrow on to RO simulation and 44 Photon Zaps.

I remember my hot flash days. They were the worst. I have been on ADT for 12 years now and hot flashes are a distant memory. I still have an occasional mild one but my body has adjusted to a new normal.
Hot flashes are not an actual temperature rise but rather a sensation caused by hormonal changes. I do remember my skin feeling flushed. You are not weird. This disease is different in everyone. PCa does not play by the rules. Side effects from treatment also affect everyone a little different as well. Hang in there. Todd

Hello ~

I have been on continuous ADT shots since my diagnosis, five years ago ...

While doctors can prescribe some medications to help with the hot flashes, I have instead found these "easy breezy" solutions that can help any fellow mitigate the hot flash experiences ...

Here we go ...

First of all, invest in a ceiling fan for the main rooms and bedroom of your place. The cost is reasonable, and a ceiling fan can go a long way towards keeping you cool. Hot flashes often intensify in the night, so get a ceiling fan installed in your bedroom. They sell ones that are rated as "quiet" ...

Second choice ... simply buy a room fan for your main rooms, to keep some good circulation going.

There's no substitute for keeping some cold water in the refrigerator, with ice on hand. Keep cold water with you at work, as well. Some fellows put a glass of ice water on the nightstand when they go to bed, as well. I have heard of some fellows who keep frozen ice packs in the freezer, if they just need some quick relief.

Use cool cotton sheets on your bed. If you experience "night sweats" --- which many fellows do --- double sack your pillows with two pillowcases, to protect your pillows. Wash and launder sheets and pillowcases often.

During the day, there's no substitute for cool cotton shirts, so that sweat can evaporate. For work, I wear cool cotton Oxford shirts, with an athletic undershirt --- you can roll up the sleeves and adjust the buttons.

Light cotton Oxford shirts can carry you through most social events and daily activities, as well --- they are both dressy and casual, at the same time.

These are some "easy breezy" tips that can help any fellow navigate through their days and nights, if bothered by "hot flashes and night sweats" ...

Mine used to be extreme heat with of course sweating for 5-10 minutes. Now it's I just get a little warm.

ISU, thanks for posting, very helpful tips.

I do worry about being in a meeting with a client and suddenly having sweat dripping down my face. Nothing I can do, I figure I’d just take out my Hanky, which is now always with me, and if it’s really excessive, just explain that it’s due to some medication I’m on. If someone has the balls to ask for details, I’d just say prescription Niacin. I’m prepared smile.

Sweats and hot flashes are annoying, and for me, they are coming more frequently now. But they are manageable.

I had hot flashes during client meetings. If I knew the clients pretty well, I might have mentioned what was going on, but I generally powered through and hoped no one noticed. For some reason, they seemed to happen more when I wasn't doing anything then when I was busy. (Or maybe they just stood out more when I was sleeping or watching TV.)

I was one of the unlucky ones, I literally started thermo nuclear hot flashes within a week of ADT. I had the red flush of the face and instant sweats from torso to the top of my head. I was already on Gabapentin for pain management so in order to get some relief I went up to 2700 mg per day. It doesn’t take them away but makes it tolerable. A fan by the bed helped. I read that the hot flash is all of your capillaries opening up at the same time so that your external skin temperature can feel up to 5 to 7 degrees hotter than your core. So suddenly feeling like I was 104 degrees I can understand why the instant sweats. There is some relief through some low side effect drugs. Good luck to you. -JR

I don't know if it will work for you folks, but in that situation I would usually say, "Sorry, I'm on a medication that gives me hot flashes.". That's it. Sometimes they'd ask more, but usually that was enough to assure them I'm not having a heart attack or anything, and people know what "hot flashes" mean.

No one ever pursued it to an awkward or concerning level. And sometimes, it gave me an opening to talk about screening if they were guys of a certain age.

Anyone here try soy milk to help with hot flashes? My URO nurse suggested it after shooting me with Lupron. I have tried it and it may be helping, not sure b/c I am not charting them. But I'll try anything first before more prescribed medicine.

I too am 4 weeks past my initial shot and I have to keep paper towels next to my chair as I watch TV because the sweat keeps dripping off my head and onto my glasses.
I also use a towel between my back and the sofa. At night I sleep with a towel and under me a second towel next to me to keep cleaning my face of the sweat.

My hot flashes weren’t a problem for me when I was just on Lupron, but are worse with the addition of Xtandi ( I’ve also added ribociclib, but I’m not aware of a connection). Because I’m more fatigued I drink more coffee. That brings the sweats. Initiating activity brings them. I also sleep in briefs, now with with just a sheet on my 1/2 of the bed, and the room A/C...and still waking up moist...and she laughs because due to some family history, my wife has never had hot flashes...😳😳😳

If I am sitting quietly I first notice a chill then comes the hot flash with copious sweating. If I am active I don't notice the chill but will get a double dose of sweats. I used to soak my pajamas and pillow at night but after starting venlafaxine the sweats are less but my pjs are still damp. Mostly the sweats don't bother me a lot except when I go dancing. If I am doing a vigorous dance and have a hot flash I really get drenched and it is embarrassing.

I get a very weird, almost indescribable feeling just before the warmth of the hot flashes begin. It’s almost like a feeling if extreme anxiety, but it’s more physical, than mental, if that makes sense. It only lasts about 15 seconds at most, then the warm feeling starts, followed by sweats, then chills.

Headaches (25 - 32 percent)
Mood swings and depression (10 - 22 percent)
Vaginal dryness and irritation (11 - 28 percent)
Acne (10 percent)
General body aches (8 - 19 percent)
Nausea (8 - 13 percent)
Joint pain (7 - 8 percent)
Edema (5 - 7 percent)
Nervousness (4 - 6 percent)
General upset stomach (3 - 7 percent)
Weight gain (3 - 13 percent)
Decreased libido (2 - 11 percent)
Dizziness (2 - 11 percent)
Tingling (“pins and needles”) in the arms and legs (1 - 7 percent)
Breast tenderness (2 - 6 percent)

(BTW, my own Lupron hot flashes were just once, maybe twice a day, coming on very quickly with no warning, usually during the day, rarely at night, lasting maybe 3-4 minutes, then disappearing just as quickly . No sweating, just a sudden "heating up" (unpleasant but bearable), but also very noticeable dizziness in my case, in addition to the hot flushing. So bad that I had to pull the car off to the side of the road once, when it hit me while I was driving).
